In this powerful letter from June 1939, Einstein thanks Mr. Fred Behr for his efforts in helping Jewish refugees. We realized $29,478 for this WWII era letter.
9) Letter Written by Albert Einstein on the day of Renouncing German Citizenship
In March 1933 Albert Einstein and his wife Elsa were returning to their summer home in Caputh, Germany via the S.S. Belgenland ship. When they learned that Nazis had raided their cottage, they decided it was too dangerous to stay in Germany. Upon docking in Brussels, Einstein turned in his passport at the German Consulate in Brussels and renounced his German citizenship. We sold his historical letter written on S.S. Belgenland to Einstein’s sister for $30,250.

This 1938 letter handwritten and signed by Albert Einstein to his sister, Maja, outlines how he’s helped Jews and other oppressed people leave Germany. In this unique letter from 1953 Einstein replies to Iowa-based teacher Arthur L. Converse regarding his electrostatic theory of special relativity. Letter is one typed page accompanied by a typed two-page questionnaire that Einstein has handwritten some responses to as well as included some equations and diagrams.
