Most versions of this photo crop out Einstein’s colleague Dr. Frank Aydelotte and his wife. We realized $125,000 for an Albert Einstein signed 7 x 10 inch copy of this image.

Signed Photo from 1921 – Sold for $24,956
We realized $27,956 for a signed photo of Albert Einstein in profile. Photo is inscribed to Johannes Mendelsohn and was signed ”Albert Einstein” in May 1921, the same year he was awarded the Nobel Prize. Silver gelatin photo was taken by Orren Jack Turner and measures 7 x 10.5 inches. Lot also includes a portrait of Albert and Elsa Einstein, signed by Elsa.

Signed Harris & Ewing Portrait – Sold for $23,100
We sold a lithograph portrait of Albert Einstein by Harris & Ewing signed, “Albert Einstein. 1945” in blue fountain pen $23,100. Harris & Ewing were a distinguished photo studio based in Washington D.C. that took official portraits of many American presidents, diplomats, senators and Supreme Court justices. Lithograph measures 11.25 x 16.125 inches and has minor edgewear and some buckling to top edge.

Signed Photo from 1947 – Sold for $7,875
We sold a signed Albert Einstein portrait taken by German American photographer Hermann Landshoff for $7,875. Landshoff received recognition for his minimalist portraits that highlighted the emotional expressiveness of the figures he photographed. This 5 x 7 inch half-glossy photo is prominently signed “Albert Einstein 47” on bottom.

Signed Photo Circa 1930 – Sold for $5,500
We sold a portrait of Albert Einstein taken circa 1930 that he signed “Dank / Albert Einstein”. The height of Einstein’s worldwide fame was in 1930 and at the end of the year he took a well-known trip to the U.S. as a guest at Caltech. During this trip he gave lectures and met with Caltech’s Dr. Robert Millikan. Photo measures 8 x8 10 inches and has some fading and soiling to margins.
