This 1861 photographic portrait of Abraham Lincoln regally sitting at a table was photographed by iconic Civil War photographer Alexander Gardner. Photo is signed ”A. Lincoln” along the bottom and was sold for $49,913.

Letter Signed to Lincoln’s Generals From 1862 — Sold for $40,000

In this significant letter penned a week after the Battle of Fredericksburg, one of the deadliest battles of the Civil War, President Lincoln writes to Major Generals William B. Franklin and William F. Smith with a potential plan of how to approach the city. We realized $40,000 for this single page letter is written on Executive Mansion letterhead by Lincoln’s secretary John G. Nicolay and signed “A. Lincoln” at the bottom.

Letter is on Executive Mansion letterhead and is dated December 22, 1862. Lincoln writes in cursive with black ink on a full sheet and signs "A. Lincoln" at the bottom.

Assassination Display w/ Abraham Lincoln & John Wilkes Booth Signed Notes + Ford Wallpaper Swatch — Sold for $31,500

This powerful display contains an illustration moments before Abraham Lincoln was assassination by John Wilkes Booth matted alongside autographed notes from Lincoln and Booth and a swatch of wallpaper from the President’s box in Ford’s Theatre. This display piece sold for $31,500.

Signed Document From 1861 — Sold for $19,250

This 1861 Abraham Lincoln signed document appointed Union supporter Daniel Lamb to ultimately protect his fellow West Virginia residents from their Rebels neighbors. This document was in response to a Congress act that allowed Lincoln to allot two million dollars to ”loyal citizens residing in any of the States of which the inhabitants are in rebellion against the Government of the United States”. We realized $19,250 for this special Civil War and West Virginia historical piece.

Signed Check From 1859 — Sold for $16,275

This Lincoln signed check dated February 28, 1859 was drawn on the Springfield Marine & Fire Insurance Company. It was payable to Springfield merchant and teacher R. H. Beach and sold for an impressive $16,275.

Signed Free Frank From 1853 — Sold for $11,875

Scarce free frank signature by Abraham Lincoln, who here signs as a former Member of Congress in 1853, boldly signing at top right ”A Lincoln MC”. Lincoln writes to General David Campbell in Abingdon, Virginia, the former Governor of Virginia who, like Lincoln, strongly supported compulsory education. Wrapper measures approximately 6.75” x 3.75” as folded, unfolding to a size of 13” x 8.75”. With red wax seal at bottom, and docketing on verso. Folds, including a shallow one through Lincoln’s signature, otherwise in near fine condition with an exceptionally bold signature. With University Archives COA.

Signed Endorsement from 1864 — Sold for $7,500

Abraham Lincoln autograph endorsement signed as President, dated 22 April 1864 almost exactly three years after the Civil War began. Lincoln issues amnesty to a Confederate soldier according to the Proclamation of Amnesty on 8 December 1863, where Confederates would be given amnesty if they took the oath of allegiance to the United States. Lincoln handwrites, ”Let the within named William H. Murray, take the oath of Dec. 8th and be discharged. / A. Lincoln / April 22, 1864”. Above Lincoln’s endorsement is a handwritten statement by Republican Tennessee Congressman Horace Maynard, recommending the discharge of Mr. Murray. Endorsement measures 4.875” x 4.75”. Fold and very minor smudging, overall in very good plus condition with bold handwriting.

Clipped Signature — Sold for $7,500

Abraham Lincoln signature, a large and bold signature with the President’s full name, ”Abraham Lincoln”. Signature is on a slip measuring approximately 4.75” x 2”, mounted to an engraving of Lincoln on board measuring 12.5” x 15.5”. Minor toning to slip, overall very good condition.
