Gold Olympic Medals

The tradition of awarding Olympic winners a gold, silver and bronze medal began at the 1904 Summer Games hosted in St. Louis, Missouri. The medals from 1904 were designed by New York City jewellers Dieges & Clust, who are also remembered for creating other iconic sports awards. Silver Olympic Medals

The International Olympic Committee regulates that silver medals must be comprised of 92.5% silver, which amounts to 525 grams of pure silver. We’ve sold some silver medals originating from some very memorable games including the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp and the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin. Please click here to see some highlights from our silver Olympic medal sales.

Bronze Olympic Medals

Prior to the 1904 Games that implemented the three-medal format we use today, the Olympics awarded winners with a silver medal and runners-up received a copper medal. The International Olympics Committee has retroactively converted the silver and copper medals to gold and silver and additionally awarded a bronze medal to those who finished in third place.
