Document Signed as President – Sold for $20,406
We realized $20,406 for a document dated 8 March 1792 signed by George Washington as President and countersigned by Thomas Jefferson as Secretary of State. Document designates “Zachariah Rhodes of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations…Inspector of the Revenue for the Port of Patuxet”. Vellum document measures 14.25 x 12 inches and includes an intact red wax-based paper seal.

Document Signed as President – Sold for $19,036
The U.S. gave out land bounties to veterans to compensate them for their service, encourage enlistment in pending wars and to promote westward expansion. We sold a vellum land bounty dated 18 August 1796 signed by President George Washington for $19,036. The document awarded James Pendleton, who served as a Captain for seven years in Virginia “a certain Tract of Land containing one thousand acres…” and “north west of the river Ohio, between the Little Miami and Sciota”. Document is also Countersigned by James McHenry, Secretary of War on the reverse.

Signed Revolutionary War Discharge Document – Sold for $16,800
We realized $16,800 for a Revolutionary War discharge document signed by Washington for a soldier in the 2nd New York Regiment. Document is undated but believed to be from June 1783 when the war was coming to an end and the Continental Army was demobilized. Visible portion of document measures 6.75 x 9.375 inches and is framed alongside a portrait of Washington that measures 18.125 x 14.75 inches.

Document Signed as President in 1789 – Sold for $15,732
Pierpoint Edwards is remembered for his public service career that began during the American Revolution and continued into first few decades after the United States federal government was established. We sold a George Washington appointment signed “G: Washington” on 26 September 1789 swearing Edwards in as the first U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Document measures 11.5 x 11 inches and is in excellent condition.

Document Signed as President in 1795 – Sold for $15,625
George Washington appointed several Spanish consuls before the The Treaty of San Lorenzo was signed as a diplomatic move to maintain peaceful relations at vital U.S. ports. We realized $15,625 for a George Washington signed document that appoints Spaniard Don Juan Bautista Bernabeu as shipping Consul in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland. Document measures 8 x 10 inches and is matted and framed alongside a portrait of George Washington.

Military Appointment Signed as President – Sold for $11,550
We sold a George Washington military appointment signed as President for $11,550. Vellum document is dated 19 March 1792 and appoints a Lieutenant to the 3rd Sub-Legion. In 1792 Washington and Secretary of War, Henry Knox, restructured the U.S. Army and formed the Legion that was commanded by Major General Wayne.

Signed Society of Cincinnati Document – Sold for $10,625
George Washington was the first president and founding member of the exclusive Society of Cincinnati, which has only been available to Revolutionary War officers and their eldest male heirs. We sold a Washington signed document that granted membership to William Adams for $10,625. Document is dated 31 October 1785 and signed ”Go: Washington” as President of the organization.
