Here are some William Shatner Star Trek autograph letters signed we have sold:

William Shatner on Leonard Nimoy & DeForest Kelley During the Early Days of ”Star Trek” — ”These early shows were quite an exploration…the three of us began to work together as a team…”

Handwritten signed recollection by William Shatner on the early days of ”Star Trek” and the camaraderie that developed between himself, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley. Composed on his personal stationery, Shatner writes, ”These early shows were quite an exploration. Not just the amount of work memorizing ten pages and preparing ten pages for tomorrow but in getting to know the other players. Obviously I spent most of the time with Leonard and DeForest. We would discuss what we were saying in the script – but also we began to explore each other’s brains – I found that Leonard and I had so much in common – same background, same journey up through the ranks – children, wife. It was the beginning of a wonderful friend. DeForest who was a southerner, was different. But what [a] lovely gentleman – beautiful manners, and such a kind way of speaking. He led a settled life and loved the routine of coming to work and going home to his beloved wife – the three of us began to work together as a team – Dialogue between characters can be like a tennis game, the conversational ball batted back and forth can make for good drama but also the audience can sense the camraderie [sic] between the actors. I loved that the camraderie [sic] – I wish I knew how to spell it. / William Shatner”. Single page measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Near fine condition. Also with an LOA by William Shatner. This William Shatner Star Trek autograph letter signed was Sold for $3,125.

William Shatner Defends His Decision Not to Attend His Friend Leonard Nimoy’s Funeral — ”…we’ll mourn Leonard, say his name and then pledge your money…”

Very interesting handwritten signed recollection by William Shatner on the death of his friend Leonard Nimoy, who served as Shatner’s best man at his 1997 wedding, but with whom he was no longer speaking to in 2015 when Nimoy died. Shatner famously did not attend Nimoy’s funeral, which he explains here: ”Leonard was very sick – he was in the hospital. His health was difficult – he was in fact dying – but nobody but his family knew – certainly I didn’t. A month or so prior to his going into the hospital, the American Red Cross asked me to do their largest fundraiser. It would be a huge event, thousands of potential donors, millions of dollars. I enthusiastically said yes. I was to leave on a Friday night for a Saturday performance when the news of Leonard’s death was delivered – the funeral was to be Sunday – what to do? My immediate thought given the blinding news of his death, my appearance or non appearance would not be noticed – also what about the people who had given good money with the expectation of seeing me – heartbroken dilemma – I chose to go the Red Cross and as I said to the people there – all is dust – your name, my name, Leonard’s name will soon be forgotten – but the good deeds you do tonight will be long remembered – I meant those emphatically. Helping others ever reverberates through time – we’ll mourn Leonard, say his name and then pledge your money. / William Shatner”. Single page composed on Shatner’s personal stationery measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Near fine condition. Sold for $1,875.

William Shatner Remembers the First Day of ”Star Trek” With a Funny Story: ”…first day on the set of Star Trek…His ass was bare. He had forgotten to put on underwear…”

Funny story by William Shatner on the first day of shooting for ”Star Trek”, where everyone was a bit nervous until an actor’s embarrassment lightened the mood. Composed on Shatner’s personal stationery, this handwritten signed recollection reads in full, ”Everybody gathered around the cameras – a little nervous, a little anxious – first day on the set of Star Trek – I looked at all these strangers – I don’t remember meeting anybody before hand – they all looked like actors with a strained manner. Me too! Hand shakes all around – some clearing of throats – let’s have a cup of coffee somebody suggested. Leonard lit up a cigarette – so did I. I smoked back then. We said few friendly words and began to stage an action sequence – A wonderful actor who had been a stuntman previously was playing the part of the bad guy – It was a fight between Kirk and that other character – I punch him, he punches me and then with a mighty swing I knock him down – the former stuntman took the blow and rolled to the floor – there was a loud cracking sound unlike anything I had ever heard before – then I realized it was the sound of tearing material – the stuntman’s pants had ripped right on the back seam – His ass was bare. He had forgotten to put on underwear – then he said something I still laugh at – ‘You’ve just had your picture taken’ – the first day of work went smoothly from then on – / William Shatner”. Single page measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Near fine condition. Also with an LOA by William Shatner. Sold for $1,563.

WILLIAM SHATNER ON THE FIRST ”STAR TREK” MOVIE — ”…HE SAID WE CAN MAKE MORE MOVIES BUT, MORE CHEAPLY – CHEAP, WE CAN DO THAT – CHEAP IS OUR MIDDLE NAME…”

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) handwritten signed recollection on what he learned after making the first ”Star Trek” movie in 1979 and how the franchise survived. Composed on Shatner’s personal stationery, it reads in full, ”Star Trek the movie, directed by Robert Wise, was not the success we all wished for. The script had some flaws – the special effects were a little long – there had been no time to properly edit them and so eventually it was not the big hit everybody expected. Given the failure of expectations the movie was deemed a failure – it wasn’t exactly – in time it made good money – but artistically it wasn’t great. Paramount got really negative about it and said they wouldn’t be making any more movies – Damn what a shame. But the head of Paramount’s wife was a Star Trek fan – she said to her husband he better make more Trek movies or there wouldn’t be anymore sex – well it was something like that – in any case, he said we can make more movies but, more cheaply – Cheap, we can do that – Cheap is our middle name – we made Star Trek two – The ‘Wrath of Khan’ for considerably less money – it was an artistic success as well as some good notices – Hell, Star Trek was ready to march on. / William Shatner”. Single page measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Near fine condition. Also with an LOA by William Shatner. This William Shatner Star Trek autograph letter signed isPrice: $2,000

WILLIAM SHATNER ON FIGHTING AS CAPTAIN KIRK: ”…THE OPPONENT WHIPS HIS HEAD AROUND AS THE FIST IS TWELVE INCHES FROM HIS HEAD – THEN HE FALLS KNOCKED OUT BY THE JOHN WAYNE PUNCH – NOT ME!…”

William Shatner handwritten signed recollection on the fist fighting techniques of Captain Kirk. Composed on his personal stationery, Shatner writes, ”A central question in playing Kirk was how to make him look good in battle. You know there is the John Wayne punch – your fist starts way behind your ear – in the real world you are telegraphing the punch – any smart street fighter would beat you to the punch – but it looks good in movies – big arching swing – the opponent whips his head around as the fist is twelve inches from his head – then he falls knocked out by the John Wayne punch – not me! I had boxed a little – you punch with elbows close to your body – you snap before punch for maximum power. The other arm is held closly [sic] to protect your head and body from a counter – that’s the way I would fight. At times some of the stunt men would suggest a two handed clubbing (didn’t work). The worst suggestion was leaping up and thrusting two feet into the opponent’s chest – real life you fall to the floor – which is what I did. / William Shatner”. Single page measures 7.25” x 10.25”. WILLIAM SHATNER ON PLAYING CAPTAIN KIRK THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE — ”…CAPT. KIRK KEPT GETTING OLDER BUT NOT SO OLD HE COULDN’T LOVE AND FIGHT – FIGHT FOR LOVE AND LOVE TO FIGHT…”

In this handwritten signed recollection, William Shatner reflects on Captain Kirk aging on celluloid, and the joy he had in playing him over the course of his life. Composed on his personal stationery, he writes: ”When the series was over, some years later we began to make movies – and to accomodate [sic] the passage of time we began to play with how to age our intrepid captain – glasses, a little white on the side burns a little more time to fall for the ladies not as impetously [sic] as young Kirk. This was fun – this was taking into account not only imagining a compelling story but a multi faceted character – his step a little slow, a decision made with a little more deliberation – we made several movies, and by the way every time we finished a movie everybody thought that was the end, there would be no more – and I would gather myself and reluctantly put aside any more ideas of how to subtly indicate an aging Kirk. They would burn the sets, no need to spend the money to store them. Get rid of the costumes – Oh to have known better – all taken with the idea that that movie was the last. But it was not to be – we endured. Capt. Kirk kept getting older but not so old he couldn’t love and fight – fight for love and love to fight all part of the character. / William Shatner.” Single page measures 7.25” x 10.25”. WILLIAM SHATNER OF CAPTAIN KIRK’S DEATH: ”KIRK HAD TO DIE… SHOT IN THE BACK WAS WHAT THE SCRIPT CALLED FOR – WHAT?…I WANTED HIM TO GO WITH AWE AND WONDER…MAYBE [DEATH IS] A GROTESQUE GOD…”

Excellent handwritten signed recollection by William Shatner on the death of himself as Captain Kirk. In this very personal essay, Shatner reflects on the nature of death itself, and how one feels when the end approaches. In full, ”Kirk had to die – why? I asked the Producers. They gave me all kinds of answers none of which made sense to me – but then I was prejudiced. How to die – that was the question – shot in the back was what the script called for – What? No Tympanys? [sic] bugles? – No, shot in the back. How do any of us die – in panic? Our body remorsfully [sic] trying to stay alive – sucking in a ragged breath – silently screaming not yet not yet. I don’t know how it’s going to go with me but for Kirk I wanted him to go with dignity. Actually I wanted him to go with awe and wonder. Yes I had played those emotions time and time again in the series and in the movies. I thought I could play that when he passed – and so I did. I added a ‘Oh my’ at the end as he saw death approach – what does death look like? Some grotesque alien or some benign God. Maybe it’s a grotesque God or on the other hand it might be a benign alien – Kirk saw it – looked on with Awe and wonder and expired. / William Shatner”. Single page on Shatner’s personal stationery measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Near fine condition. Also with an LOA by William Shatner.
