Walter Lantz ”Woody Woodpecker” Twice Signed Oil Painting
Classic cartoon character, Woody Woodpecker, oil on masonite painting signed by his artist and creator, Walter Lantz. Lantz signs in black paint in the lower right, ”Walter Lantz”. Woody Woodpecker is Lantz’s most beloved creation and the screwball character is honored with a motion picture star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Features a second Walter Lantz signature on the backing, with stamped ”Rights of Reproduction reserved by Walter Lantz”. Painting measures 20” x 16”, framed to an overall size of 26.25” x 22.25”. Fine condition. Sold for $2,167.

Painting of the classic cartoon character, Woody Woodpecker, rendered in oil on board and signed by its artist and creator, Walter Lantz. Lantz signs in the lower right, “Walter Lantz” and handwrites on the verso of the painting “Be My Guest” (title of work); ticker and stamp from Lantz’s studio also appear on the verso. A framed letter from 1977 signed by Lantz authenticating this piece is included. Painting measures 13.25″ x 10.25″ mounted to a frame measuring 18″ x 21″, in fine condition. Sold for $1,940.

Classic screwball cartoon character ”Woody Woodpecker” is here illustrated and signed by his creator, Walter Lantz. In this sketch of Woody Woodpecker dressed in a Hawaiian outfit juggling pineapples, Lantz signs below the character, ”1978 Walter Lantz”. This rendition of Lantz’s most beloved creation is sketched in ink on paper. Lantz closed his prestigious ”Walter Lantz Productions” six years prior to penning this piece. Drawing measures 8.5” x 11.5”, in fine condition. Frame measures 16” x 18.5”. Fine. Sold for $625.
