Turner Ashby 1862 Confederate Document Signed
Confederate Cavalry Commander Turner Ashby abstract signed, ”Appr. [Approved] Turner Ashby”. Partially printed document is headed, ”The United States” with ”United” crossed out in ink and replaced with ”Confederate” in handwriting, and is dated circa February 1862 from Winchester, Virginia. Here, Ashby approves the payment of $18.42 to Capt. Henderson for a pine plank used to make soldier bunks while on detached service. Document on one page measures 8” x 10” with docketing to verso. Near fine condition overall. Sold for $1,000.

Confederate General James Longstreet War-Dated Autograph Letter Signed
Confederate General James Longstreet autograph letter signed. Dated 9 September 1861, letter to Colonel Thomas Jordan reads: ”…I herewith have the honor to enclose to you the Morning Report of the 4th Brigade / Very Respectfully…James Longstreet.” The 4th Brigade, 1st Corp was part of the Army of the Potomac, six months before it became the Army of Northern Virginia. Single page with docketing to verso. Measures 7.75” x 6”. Mounted to a paper border to an overall size of 8.25” x 6.25. Pencil notations, toning and a crease, else near fine. Sold for $1,220.
Jefferson Davis document signed as Secretary of War on 4 February 1857, approximately five years before he became President of the Confederate States of America. This West Point document is printed on Department of War stationery and appoints a William H. Thomson as Cadet. Letter reads in part, ”You are hereby notified that the President of the United States has, this day, conditionally appointed you a Cadet…In January next, you will be examined before the Academic Board”. Four page card-style document measures 7.5” x 9.25”, signed on the first page by Davis. Intersecting folds, minor staining on bottom of first page, easily framed out, and minor staining on other pages. Very good condition. Sold for $1,000.
Confederate Texas 20th Cavalry discharge document, dated 15 July 1862. Signed by Colonel C. Bass from Camp McCulloch, document titled ”Soldier’s Discharge” grants an honorable discharge for Henderson Carter Walker for ”…reason of his being over 35 years of age…” 1pp. measures 8” x 6.75”. Light toning and a tiny square chip to upper left, else near fine with bright and legible writing. Sold for $954.
