A Thomas Jefferson invitation to the White House only seems to come to auction about once per year and that makes it rare. We at NateDSanders.com had some a few years back, and here are the descriptions, pictures and prices realized:
Thomas Jefferson Invitation — 1806
Invitation by Thomas Jefferson as President extended to a New York congressman Josiah Masters. Dated 26 December 1806, the partially-printed invitation reads: ”Th. Jefferson requests the favour of Mr. Masters to dine with him on Monday, the 29th at half after three, or at whatever later hour the House may rise…The favour of an answer is asked.” 1pp. invitation measures 8” x 5”. A second integral page contains text reading ”The President note to dine”. Intersecting folds and mild toning, else near fine condition. Sold for $4,468.
President Thomas Jefferson Rare Invitation for General Smith to Dine With Him at the White House
Extremely rare Thomas Jefferson partially printed White House invitation, dated 2 February 1803. In full, “Th: Jefferson requests the favour of the Honble Genl. Smith to dine with him on Saturday next, the 5th Inst at half after three, or at whatever later hour the house may rise. The favour of an answer is asked.” Addressed in an unknown hand on the integral leaf: “The Honble. / Genl. Smith / of New York.” Wax seal remnant present as well as resulting seal tear on address leaf. Expertly strengthened at folds on verso. Measures 5″ x 8″ in very good condition. Sold for $3,670.
