Here is a Tennessee Civil War letter we have sold in the past:
Robert M. Rucker, 2nd TN Infantry ALS
Lot of two excellent letters by Robert M. Rucker of the 2nd Tennessee Infantry, Co. A, who writes while fighting near Atlanta in the summer of 1864. To his mother, Rucker writes on 7 June 1864: “…we have been on the move for the last thirty days part of the time say for thirteen days, under heavy skirmish fire with the enemy, yet by the favor of the Almighty, none of our regt (except one man killed) & two or three slightly wounded, have been hurt…My frame as it were like whale bone, stand the greatest exposure & fatigue that flesh is capable of. Your nephews are all well, except West…We got to see one another after every skirmish to learn of each other’s safety…I rec’d a letter from John Mill…which painfully announced the death of his brother Archer Mill, a noble young man & a noble soldier. He fell in the fight of the 16th of May at Drury’s Bluff. He was at the head of his column when it dashed into the enemy breastworks. He was shot through the bowels & lived until the next day. John Mill & Matt Moseley escape unhurt. Jim Edmondson, Loch Weekly & Miles Furguson are well…In fact all the boys of the neighborhood as far as I have seen & heard from are well & have not been hurt…Your affectionate son, R.M. Rucker”. Sold for $1,000.
