Tadeusz Kosciuszko was born in Poland and is perhaps best remembered for assisting Americans during the American Revolution. His military education came in handy for these efforts as he built military impervious fortifications along the Hudson River at West Point. This later became the location of the U.S. Military Academy. Kosciuszko moved back to Poland and with his military leadership was able to help defend Poland against Russia and Prussia and later became commander and chief of the army.
