Robbins Medal #49F, Flown on Atlantis STS-79 — Owned by Astronaut Shannon Lucid
STS-79 was the 17th flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis, and the 79th mission of the Space Shuttle program. The flight saw Atlantis dock with the Russian space station Mir to deliver equipment, supplies and relief personnel. A variety of scientific experiments were also conducted aboard Atlantis by her crew. It was the first shuttle mission to rendezvous with a fully assembled Mir, and the fourth rendezvous of a shuttle to the space station.
Robbins medal flown on Atlantis flight STS-79, owned by astronaut Shannon Lucid, veteran of six space shuttle and two Mir missions, and the Chief Scientist of NASA in the early 2000s. Silver Robbins medal is marked 49F on rim, as are the Robbins and sterling marks. Reverse of medal features the names of the astronauts along with “Launched / September 16, 1996 / Landed / September 24, 1996 / RW 15, KSC, FL”, and the front features the mission insignia in relief. Medal measures 1.675″ across, housed in its original Robbins medal case. Near fine condition. With an LOA from Shannon Lucid. Sold for $1,300.
