It’s no pressure or anything to be The Last Hope, but for Luke Skywalker, probably the most iconic character in film history, that role was easy to fill.

Played by actor Mark Hamill, who starred in each of the successful sequels, he became the face of the trilogy, each of which has endured decades.
As one of the top-grossing films of all time, George Lucas’ first film in the successful series won six Oscars, among many other awards.

When asked in an interview about the experience, Hamill responded,
“…I laughed all through Star Wars – I thought they were comedies. It was absurd having a big giant dog flying your spaceship and this kid from the farm is wacko for this princess he’s never met, that he’s seen in a hologram, the robots are arguing over whose fault it is… You know, they hook up with a magic wizard and they borrow a ship from a pirate… It was goofier than hell! I loved it! I just seemed so fresh, and like Wizard of Oz meets technology…”
In 2014, we are proud to be auctioning one of the most unique Star Wars memorabilia item every to come up for auction —
Mark Hamill’s Screen-Worn Hero Pants in the Original 1977 “Star Wars” as Luke Skywalker
In a galaxy far, far away, Hamill donned these pants as the Jedi Knight of all Jedi Knights, wearing the costume pants throughout much of the film.
Truth is, the pants were just a pair of Levi’s or just a regular piece of Star Wars memorabilia.
In fact, in an accompanying article, Mark Hamill said of the pants, “By the way, those pants I wore were just bleached Levi’s with the tag still in them.”
The sand-colored ‘cotton drill’ “Levis” pants were customized by the famous London costumier, Bermans & Nathans, original tag sewn to inseam reads:
“Bermans & Nathans / 40 Camden St., / London NW1” tag with a “Mark Hamill / 10490 Luke / Star Wars” printed in type beneath it.

As the legendary war hero and Jedi who helped defeat the Galactic Empire in the Galactic Civil War — and helped found the New Republic, as well as the New Jedi Order — his role in the film remains paramount — as does the costume he dons throughout.
His life changed when he told ObiWan Kenobi, “I want to come with you to Alderaan. There’s nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father.”
