Skip James Autograph Sold
Skip James was a Delta blues musician who was unique for to his high skill of both the guitar and piano. James is known for his dark music that often utilized minor keys. Skip James first recorded an album that was released during the peak of the Great Depression. The record didn’t do well and James didn’t record more music until rediscovered in the 1960s. James spent his life’s later years playing concerts and blues festivals. The music of James has inspired many musicians including Eric Clapton and Robert Johnson.

Skip James 1966 Autograph Letter Signed — “…the piano music is really great…”
Autograph letter signed dated 14 October 1966 from blues musician Nehemiah “Skip” James to Maggie Calt whose brother Stephen wrote a biography of James entitled “I’d Rather Be the Devil: Skip James and the Blues.” Letter from Philadelphia reads in part: “…I hope you will soon get a chance to hear one of my last records. Every body say the [sic] are a great hit…do not forget to pray and the Lord will help you…” Signed: “Yours Truely / Nehemiah Skip James.” 6″ x 8″ four page letter has expected folds, else very good condition. Sold for $1,800.
