In baseball, the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” was a game-winning home run by New York Giants outfielder and third baseman Bobby Thomson off Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca at the Polo Grounds in New York City on October 3, 1951, to win the National League (NL) pennant. Thomson’s dramatic three-run homer came in the ninth inning of the decisive third game of a three-game playoff for the pennant in which the Giants trailed, 4–1 entering the ninth, and 4–2 with two runners on base at the time of Thomson’s at-bat.
Ticket to the legendary “Shot Heard Round the World” baseball game. Unused full ticket admits one to the 3 October 1951 New York Giants vs. Brooklyn Dodgers pennant tiebreaker game at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan; seat 4 in Box 4E. Had they attended, the bearer would have witnessed one of the most memorable moments in baseball history when Bobby Thompson hit a walk-off home run at the bottom of the ninth, sending the Giants to the World Series. Ticket is printed “PO-2″, meaning the second playoff game at the Polo Grounds. The first of the 3-game playoff series took place at Ebbets Field. Measures 6.5 x 1.75”. Fine. Very good to near fine condition. Encapsulated and graded 5 by PSA. Sold for $5,353.
