Remembering Bruce Lee

Pop culture icon Bruce Lee is remembered for popularizing Hong Kong action cinema, stirring up an interest in martial arts in Westerners and paving the way for Asian directors and actors in Hollywood. Some of his highest rated films include Enter the Dragon, Return of the Dragon and The Chinese Connection.

Autograph Letter Signed on Gung Fu Discipline – Sold for $37,500

Bruce Lee penned this unique letter to aspiring martial arts student in 1964, Gene Snelling, just before Snelling was deployed to Vietnam. Lee goes into depth about oneness, simplicity, self-consciousness and mind cultivation. Lee concludes the letter by mentioning his whereabout for the upcoming summer with the possibility that the two might be able to meet. We realized $37,500 for this uplifting letter.

Letter is dated April 4 1964 and is written on three sheets of cream colored paper. Lee writes in cursive with a bold black pen. Letter is signed "Bruce J.F. Lee:" on third page.

Lot of Three Signed Letters – Sold for $34,979

We sold this Bruce Lee lot consisting of two typed letters signed and one autograph letter signed all written to NYC-based kung-fu master William J. Chung. Lee makes references of “The Green Hornet”, rumors about him and “Black Belt” magazine. We realized $34,939 for this fantastic lot.

Personally Owned and Used Heavy Bag – Sold for $33,901

We sold a martial arts heavy bag used and owned by Bruce Lee for $33,901. Lee passed this heavy bag to one of his original martial arts students, Herb Jackson, who was also an engineer and designer of some of Lee’s training equipment.

Signed Photo + First Edition of “Chinese Gung Fu” + 1960s Business Card Lot – Sold for $32,426

This outstanding lot consists of a first edition copy of Bruce Lee’s book “Chinese Gung Fu / The Philosophical Art of Self-Defense”, a business card from Lee’s martial arts school and a signed photo of him that he’s also included the message “Best wishes” on. This sold for $32,426.

Owned & Worn White Platform Shoes – Sold for $29,136

Other than Bruce Lee’s charisma and mastery of marital arts he’s also remembered for being a sharp dresser. We sold a pair of on-trend three inch white platform shoes owned and worn by Bruce Lee for $29,136.

White leather lace up platform shoes. Brown sole consists of a 3 inch heel and 1 inch platform under the front of shoe.

Owned & Worn Platform Shoes – Sold for $29,136

Bruce Lee’s widow, Linda, gave his shoes to Lee’s brother and close friend Herb Jackson following his passing as they were similar in shoe size. These Bruce Lee owned and worn wing-tipped three inch platform shoes sold for $29,136.

Brown, black and white wing tipped platform leather shoes. Lace up style has a brown sole with 3.25 inch heel and 0.75 inch platform under front of foot.

Signed ”Green Hornet” Photo – Sold for $27,453

Bruce Lee’s breakout role was starring as Kato in the television show “The Green Hornet”. Due to Lee’s later success in martial arts films, the single season of the show has become a cult favorite. We realized $27,453 for a Green Hornet publicity photo signed by Bruce Lee and Van Williams.

Signed & Handwritten Martial Arts File for Steve McQueen – Sold for $24,361

Steve McQueen was among Bruce Lee’s celebrity martial arts students who met through their mutual friend hairstylist. The two later became close friends with McQueen serving as one of the pallbearers at Lee’s 1973 funeral. We sold Steve McQueen’s martial arts file that Bruce Lee signed and added handwritten notes to for $24,361.

Cream colored folder that measures 9.5″ x 11.5″ when closed. Folder cover reads "Bruce Lee's Tao of Gung Fu" along with "Steve McQueen". Inside records contain McQueen's personal info as well as some brief notes.

Signed Photo From ”The Green Hornet” – Sold for $22,500

Bruce Lee starred as the Green Hornet’s sidekick, Kato, on the ABC television show between 1966-67. Kato is the Green Hornet’s driver and also assists him in fighting crime as a martial arts expert. We sold a Bruce Lee signed promotional photo of Kato for $22,500.

Owned & Worn Adidas Shoes – Sold for $21,889

Bruce Lee’s signature quick punches and kicks were the result of hard, intense training of his fast twitch muscle fibers. As part of his workout routine he reportedly practiced peripheral peripheral heart action training to get the body’s blood to continuously circulate around the body instead of letting it pool in a single group of muslces. We sold a pair of white Adidas sneakers worn and owned by Lee for $21,889.

Bruce Lee Signed Check

Bruce Lee signed checks can fetch up to $10,000 to $15,000+. We sold this signed check dated 19 October 1964 from the account of his Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute in Oakland, California. Check is in the amount of $135 “for rent” noted in the memo section.
