We realized $23,100 for a Wernher von Braun typed letter dated 6 January 1964 to an undisclosed Board Chairman. Von Braun references a speech he gave in Ponte Vedra, Florida and writes, “Your hunting invitation sounds very intriguing. I am always interested in hunting and would like very much to be able to accept your wonderful offer. However, for the time being, I must ask for a rain check since I am very busy helping put a man on the moon…” Letter is accompanied with authentication from both JSA and Steve Zarelli.

We realized $4,300 for a unique two page Wernher von Braun typed letter signed from 22 February 1964 regarding the first American satellite, Explorer I, that was launched from the Jupiter-C missile. Letter in part reads,
“About one month after Sputnik I we were given the go-ahead on this project. And within 87 days the 30.8-pound Explorer I was boosted by the Jupiter C to the path which it is still traveling around the earth…Six years later, on January 29, 1964, the Saturn I placed into orbit 37,700 pounds, dramatically demonstrating this advance in rocketry…Your collection of stamps will reflect many more milestones in the future as man advances into space…[signed] Wernher von Braun”.

Wernher von Braun Signed Speech From 1959
Wernher von Braun served as Director of the Development Operations Division of the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency between 1956 and 1960. During those year he helped develop the Jupiter-C missile which launched the first U.S. satellite and officially made the U.S. a contender in the space race. We sold a Wernher von Braun signed speech that references the Jupiter missile for $4,000. Speech is dated 25 July 1959 and was delivered to the Georgian American Legion.
