Who Was George Custer?
George Custer was a cavalry commander and Army officer during the American Civil War and the Indian Wars. He’s best remembered for his brazen charges during the Civil War and for leading the Union cavalry during important battles including Gettysburg, Third Winchester and the Appomattox Campaign. George Custer Signed Military Appointment
The 7th Cavalry Regiment was formed in 1866 and had a huge role in westward expansion. Its main objectives were to protect settlers, enforce the Native American reservation system and engage in the Indian Wars. We realized $11,250 for a George Armstrong Custer signed military appointment for the 7th Cavalry Regiment. Document appoints Peter Liner as Sergeant on 17 November 1874. Vellum document measures 15.75 x 9.75 inches.

George Custer Signed CDV Photo
We sold a signed CDV photo of George Custer taken by the iconic Civil War photographer Mathew Brady for $8,400. Photo was taken on 8 October 1863 the reverse of image has Mathew Brady’s backstamp. Custer signs, “Truly Yours / G.A. Custer” beneath his portrait and photo is accompanied by a CDV of Custer’s wife, Elizabeth Bacon Custer.

George Custer Autograph Letter Signed
George Custer commanded the 7th Cavalry Regiment for eight years between 1866 and 1874 and led them through the Indian Wars. The 7th Cavalry’s most famous battle was Little Bighorn that took Custer’s life along with over 200 men under his leadership. We realized $8,125 for a George Custer autograph letter signed as Lt. Colonel of the 7th Cavalry written to Lt. Moylan. Letter is dated 24 January 1870 and discusses the effect of uniforms on troop morale and discipline.

George Custer Carte de Visite Photo Signed
We sold a George Custer carte de visite signed for $7,200. Image was taken circa 1866, which coincides with the start of the formation of the 7th Cavalry Regiment when Custer led soldiers during the Indian Wars. Custer signs “G A Custer B Major Gen” on verso above Mathew Brady’s backstamping. Photo measures 2.5 x 4 inches and has been archivally repaired

George Custer Check Signed
We realized $6,691 for a George Custer autograph check dated 4 October 1872. Around this time Custer and the 7th Cavalry Regiment were stationed in the Dakota Territory and partook in efforts to overpower Native American resistance groups. Partially printed Planters National Bank check is signed ”GA Custer” and made out in his hand to ”First National Bank Nashville Tenn” in the amount of ”Three hundred & sixty five” dollars. Measures 7 x 2.75 inches.

George Custer Signed Civil War Document
We sold a George Custer signed Civil War endorsement for $4,759. Document is dated 25 November 1864 and is regarding Custer’s approval and recommendation from the Headquarters 3rd Cavalry Division. Custer signs “G. A. Custer” on document measuring 3.25 x 2.5 inches.

George Custer Signed Envelope as “Genl GA Custer”
We realized $3,000 for a George Custer signed envelope to his wife circa November 1868. Custer writes “Mrs Genl GA Custer / Fort Leavenworth / Kansas” on a 5.5 x 3.125 inch envelope. Around this time Custer had his cavalry attack a Cheyenne camp, which is remembered as the controversial Battle of the Washita River. Envelope has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA to a size of 7.25 x 4.25 inches.
