Ernest Hemingway’s Legacy
Ernest Hemingway helped shaped modern writing by emphasizing common words and short sentences as well as focusing action and dialog rather than detailed explainations. The style of Hemingway’s short stories moved away from clean endings and a moral lesson, which were commonplace at the time, and employed open-ended conclusions. Also, rather than narrating a character’s entire life arc, Hemingway preferred to focus on periods of emotional turmoil.
