Why Are Beatles Autographs Worth So Much?
The Beatles are one of the most prolific musical groups of all time and were heavily associated with the counterculture movement of the 1960s. The success of their first album “Please Please Me” helped spark the “British Invasion” in the U.S. and they would later top the charts for the next several years. Their 13 studio albums had a revolutionary effect on the music industry and they continue to influence musical artists today across a multitude of genres. We at Nate D. Sanders Auctions have realized great prices for Beatles and music memorabilia in general.
Here are some of our realized prices for Beatles autographs:
”Please Please Me” Album Signed by All Four Beatles + John Lennon Signed & Handwritten Card – Sold for $28,750
“Please Please Me” was the Beatles’ debut album and included their catchy hits “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me”. The 1963 album showcased their early rock and pop sound and remained in the #1 spot on the UK Albums Chart for 30 weeks. We sold a remarkable Beatles lot consisting of a signed “Please Please Me” record, along with a 1978 new year’s card written and signed by John Lennon for $28,750.

Beatles Contract Rider for 1965 San Diego Concert Signed by Brian Epstein – Sold for $10,780
Brian Epstein is often regarded as the fifth Beatle due to his tireless commitment to the band and his role in helping them achieve global fame. Among countless things, Epstein secured their record deal with EMI where they worked with George Martin, managed their press and tour schedule and shaped the band’s early image. We sold a Beatles contract rider from their San Diego concert on 28 August 1965 signed by Brian Epstein for $10,780. The document outlines the Beatles’ terms including a dressing room with ”four cots, mirrors, an ice cooler, portable TV set and clean towels” as well as their well-known requirement to not play before a segregated crowd.

Signed & Inscribed Beatles Photo – Sold for $10,470
We realized $10,470 for a Beatles publicity photo signed and inscribed by John, Paul, George and Ringo on the reverse. John Lennon writes, “To Roy, why don’t you get a job? good heavens from John Lennon”. The inscriptions from the other band members are just as cheeky. Music executive, Neil Aspinall, also signs and inscribes.

Signed Concert Program From 1963 – Sold for $9,375
In late 1963 The Beatles were a UK sensation, coined by the term “Beatlemania”, and by early 1964 the entire globe had become enveloped in Beatlemania. The Beatles were unable to go anywhere without screaming crowds, heavy media coverage or being able to enjoy a shred of privacy. We sold a concert program from 25 April 1963, just before they achieved worldwide fame, signed by each of the member of The Fab Four for $9,375.

Photo Signed by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison & Best – Sold for $8,750
We realized $8,750 for a photo of the Beatles signed by all four members in April 1962, which included John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Pete Best. Pete Best is remembered as the Beatles’ drummer between 1960 and 1962 and played in their early shows at various clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg, Germany. Ringo Starr replaced Best in August 1962.
