S. Clay Wilson Original Drawing — Underground Cult Artist’s Depiction of His Famous “Ruby The Dyke” Was Drawn in September 1992
Humorous original drawing by cult artist S. Clay Wilson in September 1992. Wilson, who got his start with “Zap” magazine in the 1960’s, is widely known and respected in the comic world for his risque and satirical depictions of archetypal characters. This drawing, done on white cardboard in black ink with light blue shading, depicts “Ruby the Dyke” holding a phallic fishing rod while smoking a cigar and holding a bottle of “Bitch Beer”. “Ruby” was one of Wilson’s most popular characters, appearing in various issues of “Zap” magazine. Includes letter of sale written to the original buyer and initialed by Wilson on 9 September 1992. Upon the upper portion, Wilson dedicates the drawing, “Ruby the Dyke for Richard Lubinskas” and signs “S. Clay Wilson / Sept. 1992.” Measures 5″ x 7″. Near fine. Sold for $692.
The following are some additional art items we sold:
Robert Crumb Original Artwork From ”Whiteman Meets Bigfoot”
Robert Crumb original illustration art from the ill-fated ”Whiteman Meets Bigfoot”, a never-produced film based on Crumb’s comic ”Home Grown Funnies”. Crumb created original artwork for the film in 1977, of which this is an example, undoubtedly an important scene in which Yeti is on display for a Bigfoot Days Parade. Pen and ink art measures 9” x 11.75”. Very light toning, overall near fine condition. Sold for $6,600.
Oversized 15” x 11” ”Li’l Abner” sketch by Al Capp. Drawing in ink and pencil depicts Daisy Mae and Slobberlips. With pencil notations along bottom, possibly in Capp’s hand. Minor foxing and toning, very good. Sold for $1,250.
