Below are some Robert Kennedy items we have sold in the past:
Large collection of eyeglasses belonging to U.S. Presidents and world leaders, including a pair belonging to Ronald Reagan, along with Reagan’s autograph letter signed, and accompanying signed envelope. Composed on his Yearling Row ranch stationery, where Reagan lived from 1951-1966, the 40th President writes to Dr. Bagley in full, ”Since I’m now a wearer of Corneal Lens’ this is the best I can do. / These broken parts are all that remain except for one spare pair I keep on hand in addition to my ‘Corneals’. / Best Regards / Ronald Reagan”. Letter is undated but accompanied by original envelope handwritten by Reagan, signed ”R. Reagan / Pacific Palisades Calif.” with a postmark from either 1962 or 1963. Letter is addressed to Dr. Melvin J. Bagley, who assembled this large collection for ”The Famous People’s Eyeglasses Museum”, which he founded.
Another pair of eyeglasses comes from Robert Kennedy, whose accompanying typed letter signed is on Attorney General stationery, dated 26 July 1963. Kennedy writes, ”My belated thanks for your letter requesting a pair of eyeglasses I have used for the collection. At long last, we have located a pair which are no longer useful. These are being mailed to you under separate cover…[signed] Robert F. Kennedy”.
Other eyeglasses, nearly all with accompanying letters, come from Egyptian President Anwar Sadat (two pairs), Israeli President Ephraim Katzir, Colombian President Belisario Betancur, Austrian President Kurt Waldheim, Italian Prime Ministers Giulio Andreotti and Bettino Craxi, the Presidents of Ireland and Chile, Vice President Spiro Agnew, and Presidential candidates Thomas Dewey, Barry Goldwater, and Alf Landon. Other glasses come from politicians Elizabeth Holtzman and Estes Kefauver, Speaker of the House Carl Albert, New York City Mayor Abraham Beame and Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek, the General Secretary of the Communist Party Gus Hall, and several others.
The lot also includes letters from individuals declining sending a pair of eyeglasses, including a letter from Eleanor Roosevelt who writes, ”I wish I could send you a pair of eye glasses for your collection. Unfortunately, however, I do not have any except the ones I am now using for reading…[signed] Eleanor Roosevelt”. Each pair of glasses is labeled in its own case, compiled by Dr. Bagley beginning in the 1960s through the 1980s, most in very good condition. Lot also includes a copy of his book, ”Celebrity Sighting”. A very unique and personal collection of memorabilia worn by the most influential leaders of the world. Sold for $15,699.


Memorial edition of ”Profiles in Courage”, dedicated to legendary actress Helen Hayes and signed by seven high-profile political figures including Robert Kennedy. JFK’s account of eight outstanding U.S. Senators was re-published here by Harper & Row: New York, Evanston, and London: 1964. Front free endpaper is inscribed in the hand of Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, ”To Helen Hayes / With deep appreciation” and is signed: ”Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy”, ”Eunice Kennedy Shriver”, ”Ted Kennedy”, ”Jean Kennedy Smith”, ”Patricia Kennedy Lawford”, ”Robert Kennedy” and ”Sargent Shriver”. Elegantly bound in navy blue leather boards with gilt presidential seal and customized in gilt ”Helen Hayes” on the lower right corner of the front board. All edges gilt, with marbled navy blue endpapers featuring gilt flecks. Housed in a navy blue marbled paper slipcase. Light scuffing to backstrip, else fine. Slipcase shows edge wear, else near fine. From the Helen Hayes estate. Sold for $6,083.

Lot of Robert Kennedy signed items: (1) 10” x 12” matte photo signed to U.S. Attorney Thomas Sheridan. Inscribed by RFK on the photograph border, ”For Tom, With appreciation and the high regard of his friend / Bob Kennedy”. Crease to upper right corner, else near fine. (2) Typed letter signed ”Bob” to U.S. Attorney Thomas Sheridan, thanking him for his good wishes. Letter on Kennedy’s personal stationery is dated 27 November 1964, shortly after the one-year anniversary of JFK’s death, and also not long after RFK was elected as U.S. Senator from New York. The letter is additionally hand-annotated by Kennedy, who adds the following note, ”My thanks and best wishes to you / Bob”. Letter measures 8.5” x 11”. Light creasing and foxing, overall very good condition. Sold for $1,099.

Robert F. Kennedy signed first edition of his book, ”To Seek a Newer World”, with excerpts from his speeches on inner cities, nuclear containment and China. New York: Doubleday & Co., Inc., 1967. RFK inscribes the half-title page, ”for Jack Spangenburg / with the appreciation of his friend / Christmas 1967 / Robert F Kennedy”. Book measures 5.75” x 8.5”. Housed in a very good dust jacket that has some chipping at top. Book is near fine. Lot includes a brochure from the third annual Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards. From the estate of Jack Spangenburg, longtime Kennedy family employee and author of ”Moonlighting As a Butler: Serving the Kennedys 1960-1977”. Sold for $666.

Robert F. Kennedy typed letter signed ”Robert Kennedy” as Senator, with an additional ”My thanks” in his hand. Letter on U.S. Senate stationery is dated 14 November 1966, addressed to one Jackie Mason. Reads in part, ”I would like to extend to you my thanks for all your help in preparing for my visit to Portland…” Single-page letter measures 6.25” x 8.25”. Light toning, else near fine. Sold for $625.

Robert Kennedy photo, inscribed, ”For Judge Foley / With best wishes / Robert Kennedy”. Semi-matte photo measures 10” x 8”. Some surface loss to right and top edges and adhesive residue to verso, near fine overall. Sold for $625.

Robert Kennedy signed ”The Enemy Within”, published by Harper & Brothers: New York: 1960. Book is signed in black ink, ”best wishes / Robert Kennedy” upon the front free endpaper. Kennedy served as chief counsel of the Senate Labor Rackets Committee during its investigation of the Teamsters Union and its president Jimmy Hoffa. Kennedy’s account of the historic investigation runs 338pp. Bound in olive green cloth boards with gilt lettering and pictorial dustjacket, measuring 6” x 8.75”. Toning to endpapers and shallow dent to front board, else near fine. Dustjacket is near fine. Sold for $625.
