Ray Bradbury Signed Contract 1972 Martian Chronicles
The Martian Chronicles is a science fiction fix-up novel, published in 1950, by American writer Ray Bradbury that chronicles the exploration and settlement of Mars, the home of indigenous Martians, by Americans leaving a troubled Earth that is eventually devastated by nuclear war. The book is a work of science fiction, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, dystopian fiction, and horror that projects American society immediately after World War II into a technologically advanced future where the amplification of humanity’s potentials to create and destroy have both miraculous and devastating consequences.
Ray Bradbury signed contract permitting a theater adaptation of his novel, “The Martian Chronicles”. Bradbury’s beloved fantasy work is based on the concept of humans colonizing Mars, a planet already populated with native Martians. Legal agreement on Harold Matson Company, Inc. letterhead is dated 13 July 1972 and addressed to Claire Jones in Baltimore. Signed “Ray Bradbury” in black marker. Also signed by Miss Jones and Don Congdon, Bradbury’s agent. Lot additionally includes a handwritten 5″ x 7″ letter by Jones thanking Bradbury for his agreement, and an 8.5″ x 11″ xerox of the attorney’s initial response document. Signed single-page contract measures 8.5″ x 11″. Minor toning to edges and a small tear to fold along right edge, overall very good. With a COA from the Ray Bradbury estate. Sold for $1,072.
