A Raoul Wallenberg autograph is rare and is usually only seen on Schutzpasses, protective passports that identified the bearers as Swedish nationals awaiting repatriation. We have had several of these Schutzpasses. Here are images and descriptions:
1944 Raoul Wallenberg Autograph Schutzpasse Signed
Rare 1944 document signed by Raoul Wallenberg as a secretary in the Swedish Embassy in Hungary. Document confirms the family relation between a Jewish mother, (employee of the Swedish Embassy), and her son. Wallenberg ink signature appears in the right upper quarter of the document. Document is postmarked “K…nigliche Schwedish Gestandschaft in Budapest”. Raoul Wallenberg served as secretary of the Swedish embassy in Hungary during the last months of World War II. It is estimated that during this time he handed out over 15,000 Schutzpasses, protective passports that identified the bearers as Swedish nationals awaiting repatriation. He was eventually deported from the Embassy by Soviet troops and died of unknown circumstances in KGB prison. Document contains one horizontal and one vertical crease meant for folding into quarters. Overall excellent condition. Sold for $11,517.

Scarce 1944 document signed by Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews at the close of WWII. After the publication of a 1944 report detailing the mass deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz, Wallenberg, a Swedish citizen fluent in Hungarian, was chosen by the United States to lead a relief mission in Hungary. He was to issue fake “protective” passports claiming Jewish persons were actually Swedish citizens awaiting repatriation, with the full protection of such citizenship. In early 1945 Wallenberg was taken for espionage and never heard from or seen alive again; before his capture it’s believed that he saved 15,000 people in the last months of the war.
