Here are some Prince albums we have sold:
Engineered by long time Prince engineer David Rivkin, this one-of-a-kind reel-to-reel master tape was recorded by Prince to demo his first solo hit single, “Soft and Wet”, released in June 1978 on his debut album, “For You”. This master tape, recorded in the summer of 1977 at the Minneapolis studio Sound 80, was used to strike all the demos sent to publicize the new, unknown superstar to record labels. This looser and “funkier” version of “Soft and Wet” differs from the subsequently re-recorded version that appears on Prince’s debut album, “For You”. Tape measures 7″ in diameter, housed in a Sound 80 box measuring 7″ square. On back of box is written “1/2 Trk / Soft & Wet” and masking tape on demo tape itself states the same. Some wear to box, otherwise near fine condition. With an LOA from David Rivkin. Sold for $6,250.

Prince Mastering Reference Tapes for His 1978 Debut Album, ”For You”
Two reel-to-reel mastering reference tapes for Prince’s first album, ”For You”. Dated 8 March 1978, the stereo tapes come housed in their original boxes, with each tape pertaining to one side of the original album. Once approved, an album ”Master” was made and used to press up the individual albums. This was the last version of the album heard before the 9 songs were pressed to vinyl. Songs were recorded at the Record Plant in Sausalito, mixed at Sound Labs LA, and mastered at A&M. Only 5 copies were likely made, making this pair of tapes extremely rare. Tapes are offered as collector’s pieces only and do not come with rights for reproduction, manufacturing or distribution. Each square box measures 7.25”. Minor wear and tearing to box, overall very good condition. With an LOA from Owen Husney. Five percent of net proceeds on this item will go to the charity, Our House LA’s Camp Erin for Grieving Children. Sold for $5,236.

Prince Worn Lace Glove From His ”Purple Rain” Concert in 1984
Prince concert-worn glove from his iconic ”Purple Rain” tour in 1984. A signature white lace glove adorned with rhinestones, Prince wore this glove during his performance on 15 December 1984 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky before he tossed it into the audience. Glove is accompanied by a notarized letter from a contractor at Rupp Arena, who writes, ”…I was part of the set up and breakdown team – I’ve included my tax records to prove my employment at Rupp Arena…During the show Prince went up a twenty foot staircase to the scaffolding on the side of the stage while performing and took off and threw one of his gloves towards the audience. It didn’t reach the audience though – I watched the glove fall out of sight into the scaffolding below him. After the show, I kept an eye out for the glove as I was breaking down the lighting scaffolding in the area Prince threw it and sure enough, there it was…” As indicated in his letter, the consignor has included a copy of his 1099 record from 1985 showing his employment with IATSE Local 346 representing the Lexington area. Right-handed lace glove measures approximately 8” long including ruffle at bottom, and 6” at the wrist. Some age discoloration, partial tear at the ruffle and rhinestone chain, while present, has separated in two spots. Overall in good condition, consistent with wear. Sold for $26,121.

Prince Concert-Worn White Lace Glove From 1984 — Along With Guitar String That Prince Used
Prince worn white lace glove from October 1984, shortly after ”Purple Rain” played in theaters. Lot also includes a guitar string from a guitar that Prince played on the night of 25 October 1984 at the 7th Street Entry, a well known Minneapolis concert venue. That night, a local band called The PedalJets played at the Entry, who were surprised, along with the rest of the audience, by an impromptu performance by Prince. Prince closed the venue off to only those who were in the audience for The PedalJets’ performance, and used their equipment to do his set. As a memento, Prince gave his left glove to Scott Mize, lead guitarist for the PedalJets, whose LOA accompanies this lot as does a newspaper article from 31 October 1984 entitled ”PedalJets got no photos but kept Prince’s white glove”. Scott Mize is referenced in the article as the band’s lead guitar player. Lot is also accompanied by an audio recording of Prince’s concert that night, running approximately 1/2 hour, with Prince even referencing the band at the beginning. Lace glove fits the left hand and measures approximately 8” long and 3” at the wrist. Some soiling from wear at the fingertips, but in otherwise near fine condition. A nice, personal Prince memento at the height of his stardom. Sold for $8,924.
