Patrice Lumumba Autograph Letter Signed Shortly Before His Brief Tenure as Congolese Prime Minster & Subsequent Execution — With 13 Press Photographs From 1960
Patrice Lumumba autograph letter signed from August 1959 as President of the MNC (Mouvement National Congolais), shortly before he was elected Prime Minster of the Republic of the Congo in 1960; lot also includes 13 press photographs, circa 1960 during Lumumba’s tenure as Prime Minster and after he was deposed. Lumumba served as Prime Minister for less than 3 months before being executed in January 1961 in a coup that brought dictator Joseph Mobutu to power. Composed in French on blue typing paper, single page letter measures 8.25″ x 10.5″. Folds and light creasing, overall very good plus condition. Rare. Sold for $3,414.

David Ben-Gurion signed limited edition of ”Israel: A Personal History”, his 862pp. tribute to the country he founded and led as its first Prime Minister. New York: Funk and Wagnalls Inc., 1971. Ben-Gurion signs ”D. Ben-Gurion” below his frontispiece portrait. Volume is #473 of 2,000 in the limited edition, beautifully bound in navy leather boards with top edge gilt and silk moire endpapers. Measures 7.25” x 10.25”. Separation starting to front joint, light foxing throughout and light wear. Overall very good condition. Sold for $3,661.
Nelson Mandela signed limited edition of ”Long Walk to Freedom”. Norwalk, CT: Easton Press, 2000. In fine condition, still in shrinkwrap, signed by Mandela to the limitation page. The South Africa President’s chronicle of his extraordinary life in the former apartheid country is bound in green leather boards with all edges gilt, gilt design, pink silk moire endpapers and a sewn-in gold satin page marker. Runs 558pp. and measures 6.5” x 9.5”. Fine condition. Housed in a beautiful custom leather clamshell box with silk moire interior. Sold for $1,875.
