Founded by lead singer-songwriter and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Nirvana’s success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the figurehead band of Generation X. Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture.

Rare Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl Signed EP — With Cobain Signing as “Kurdt” — With Roger Epperson COA
Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl signed EP record with Cobain signing as ”Kurdt”, the name he often used in notebooks to refer to himself. Both Cobain and Grohl sign the front cover of ”Teriyaki Asthma”, a compilation EP released in 1989 by C/Z Records featuring Nirvana’s song ”Mexican Seafood”, with Cobain’s name on the back cover also spelled ”Kurdt Kobain”. The EP is rare on its own in the Nirvana oeuvre as only 1,000 were ever released. Record measures 7.25” square. Very well-preserved, with cover, sleeve and record all in near fine condition. With Roger Epperson COA for both signatures. A rare signed Nirvana record signed by Cobain, perhaps the only signed example of this rare compilation EP. Sold for $2,940.

One of the most covered and influential songs of all time, ”Like a Rolling Stone” lyrics are here handwritten and signed by their creator, Bob Dylan. With this song, Dylan reinvigorated his passion for his own work and fully embraced rock music (”play it fucking loud” he told his band) as a complement to folk. Clocking in at 6 1/2 minutes long, the song was initially thought too long to be commercially successful, until listeners in the mid-60s harassed radio stations to play it in its entirety. ”Like a Rolling Stone” has been covered by Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and countless others, and inspired even more. Bruce Springsteen first heard it when he was 15 years old: ”on came that snare shot that sounded like somebody’d kicked open the door to your mind…The way that Elvis freed your body, Dylan freed your mind, and showed us that because the music was physical did not mean it was anti-intellect. He had the vision and talent to make a pop song so that it contained the whole world. He invented a new way a pop singer could sound, broke through the limitations of what a recording could achieve, and he changed the face of rock’n’roll for ever and ever.” Perhaps the greatest mystery in music is trying to figure out who Dylan is referring to in the song — even Andy Warhol has been mentioned — but ultimately, rock historians believe it speaks to anyone, even Dylan himself, who eschews an easy, pretentious life for one that is riskier but ultimately more fulfilling, with ”nothing to lose” and ”no secrets to conceal”. Single page measures 8.5” x 11”. In near fine condition. With COA from Jeff Rosen, Bob Dylan’s manager. Sold for $90,000.
Eddie Van Halen Personally Designed, Stage Played & Signed Guitar
Eddie Van Halen personally designed (hand-striped) custom guitar, owned and played onstage by Eddie at the 16 February 2008 show in Jacksonville, Florida. Charvel guitar is signed by Eddie in silver marker, with the Jacksonville concert date also written by him as well as ”Van Halen ’08”. In custom EVH (Eddie Van Halen) Charvel guitar case, and with COA signed by Eddie Van Halen showing serial number of 173, matching EVH plate on guitar. Near fine condition. A fantastic rock collectible personally designed, played and signed by one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Sold for $37,500.
David Crosby’s Own Gibson ES-335 Guitar — From His Days in “The Byrds”
David Crosby’s personally owned and played Gibson guitar, used by Crosby in “The Byrds,” one of the most influential bands of the 1960’s. Crosby’s role in “The Byrds” from the iconic group’s formation in 1964 until his departure in 1967 garnered him his first of two inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Guitar is the widely recognized Gibson ES-335, with a Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece tremolo. Dating to 1958, this model was the first electric guitar to introduce the semi-hollow body design. Neck is one-piece mahogany beneath a rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays. Measures 16.5″ wide, 20″ long, and 1.75″ deep. Housed in a black hardshell case lined in orange velvet. Scattered nicks and bumping to top of headstock, else near fine. With an LOA from David Crosby. Sold for $25,428.
Richard Wright’s personally owned RIAA Platinum award for “The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd, the band’s most successful album and consistently ranked one of the greatest rock albums of all time. White matte award features a gold vinyl record above the album’s cover art and a plaque reading “PRESENTED TO / RICHARD WRIGHT / TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN / ONE MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF THE / HARVEST RECORDS / LONG-PLAYING RECORD ALBUM / ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’”. Award is in original frame, with RIAA framer, New York Frame & Picture Co. label on paper backing. Measures 17.75″ x 21.5″. Some nicks to wood frame, and a few spots of discoloration to matte at the very bottom, otherwise near fine condition. Accompanied by an LOA from Wright’s second wife, Franka Wright. Richard Wright’s Platinum RIAA album for “The Wall” sold in 2005 for over $40,000. Sold for $25,000.

Jon Bon Jovi’s guitar, played onstage by Jon in Boston on 1 March 2011 during the Bon Jovi Live Tour, and signed in silver marker by him, along with the date played. Takamine acoustic-electric guitar is model EF 341SC, and serial #10110447, housed in Takamine hard-shell guitar case. Lot also includes a Bon Jovi COA, originally sold by the band a charity auction, as well as original glossy 8” x 10” photos of Bon Jovi playing this guitar in Boston, and him signing it. Simmons signs “Gene Simmons” in silver pen on the black front and also writes in artistic, stylized handwriting for excellent visual appeal: “Rock & Roll All Nite / And Party Every Day – / You Drive Us Wild We’ll / Drive You Crazy – This is a Stage / Played Bass – KISS”. Fender Swinger guitar, personally owned by John Entwistle of The Who from 1969 when the band released their classic rock opera ”Tommy”. The Fender Swinger guitar is one of the rarest production guitars, with only 250 to 300 made and less than 30 in this Lake Placid Blue finish, aged to a deep green. Guitar shows serial #264153 on its neckplate, matching the guitar in John Entwistle’s book ”Bass Culture: The John Entwistle Bass Collection”, where it’s featured on page 56; copy of the book is included. Also included are two lot tags and lotting sticker from Sotheby’s where the guitar sold on 13 May 2003 as lot 191 in John Entwistle’s estate sale, ”The John Entwistle Collection”. Some nicks and chipping to body of guitar, as expected from use, overall very good condition. In Fender hardshell case measuring 41” x 14”, which has an old Continental Airlines tag tucked inside. A scarce guitar by one of the greatest rock ‘n roll bassists. Sold for $7,500.
