Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer who was also one fifth of the The Five, a group of five notable 19th century classical music composers based in St. Petersburg who composed together. Rimsky-Korsakov attended a naval academy and balanced a teaching and composing career at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory while also serving as an officer in the Russian Navy. Some of his most famous pieces are Capriccio espagnol, Russian Easter Festival and “The Flight of the Bumble Bee” from The Tale of Tsar Saltan.

Russian Composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov 1907 Autograph Note Signed — Elegantly Framed
20th century Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov autograph note signed, dated 17 May 1907 from St. Petersburg. At this point in his career, Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian fixture, touring Europe with his popular compositions. A year after penning this note, the virtuoso passed away. Reads in full: “To Mr. Frank Seymour Hastings / from greatfully [sic] yours / N. Rimsky-Korsakov / 27 Mai 1907 / St. Petersburg”. Single page note measures 7″ x 2.5″, framed with a portrait and biography plaque of the composer against a turquoise mat to an overall size of 15.75″ x 24.5″. Toning, archivally repaired tear and chipping to lower right. Very good condition. Sold for $1,495.
