As the imperious nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte staged a coup in 1851 to become the sole ruler of France, Napoleon III. He became emperor of France from 1852 to 1870 with a marked downfall during the Franco-Prussian War, when his efforts to defeat Otto Von Bismarck ended in his capture.
Tuileries Palace, now the Louvre museum and Tuileries Gardens, became his primary residence as well as the location of the executive branch of government.

In the Louvre today, there is a section devoted to Napoloeon III, with furniture, historical memorabilia and artwork from his period in history.

We are excited to be auctioning an incredible collection of original historical memorabilia; Napoleon III’s china service used for various social gatherings at the palace.
In the center of each piece of this china , Napoleon III’s seal and monogram “N” appear in gilt and the rim of each dish is decorated with a gilt band, with various years circa mid 1800’s marked beneath.
