Ernest Hemingway Signed First Limited Edition of ”A Farewell to Arms” — Scarce in Original Slipcase
Ernest Hemingway signed limited first edition of his post-WWI classic, ”A Farewell to Arms”, housed in its original limited edition slipcase, with numbers matching. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1929. Published on 27 September 1929 in a limited edition of 510 numbered copies, this being #214, signed boldly ”Ernest Hemingway” in black fountain pen. In matching slipcase with Charles Scribner’s Sons plate, again listing the limited edition as #214. Measures 6.5” x 9.5”. Some chipping to seams of slipcase, overall in very good condition. Chipping to spine label, otherwise book is near fine. Sold for $10,313.
Scarce Leo Tolstoy Autograph on Signed Vintage Photo Postcard — With PSA/DNA COA
Very rare autograph by the Russian literary genius, Leo Tolstoy. Tolstoy signs his name, “Leo Tolstoi” below his image on a striking postcard capturing the writer as an elderly man. The card verso is postmarked in Russian for 1909, one year before his death. The recipient is a Herrn Richard Stern in Vienna, Austria. Postcard measures 3.5″ x 5.5″ with some silvering to photo and slight wear to the edges. Very good condition. Scarce. With PSA/DNA COA. Sold for $3,500.
Ayn Rand signed limited edition of ”Atlas Shrugged”, Random House: New York: 1967. Rand’s celebrated final novel set in a dystopian America popularized the philosophy of Objectivism and rational self-interest. Limitation page is signed ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink and indicates this is number 721 of a 10th Anniversary signed edition limited to 2,000 such copies. At 1168pp., this is her lengthiest piece of literature. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and top edge blue. Measures 6” x 8.75”. Some minor blue ink to spine and scratching to bottom edge, else near fine. Sold for $2,188.
William Faulkner’s “Mosquitoes” 1st Edition
“Mosquitoes” by William Faulkner. New York: Boni and Liveright: 1927. First edition, first printing rare book with dustjacket. Dustjacket shows edgewear, small hole to verso, and dampstaining at backstrip. Binding of volume is somewhat loose and shows minor wear to edges and ends. Dustjacket of rare book is in fair condition; book, near fine. Sold for $1,573.
