Disney Original Concept Painting From 1964 for “It’s a Small World” by Mary Blair — Measures 20″ x 15″
“It’s a Small World” original concept painting, created in 1964 for Walt Disney by Mary Blair, a “Disney Legend” who designed concept art for “Cinderella”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Peter Pan”. Originally a pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair, “It’s a Small World” captured the attention of Walt Disney, who commissioned Mary Blair to adapt it into a ride at Disneyland. Her subsequent artwork is presented here — a gorgeous 1960s inspired castle-themed piece in colors of pink, green and gold against a contrasting black background. The entrance to the ride is clearly evident in the artwork, referencing Blair’s mod-castle aesthetic with soft colors. Board measures 20″ x 15″. Light edge wear and pinholes at corners, otherwise near fine. Beautiful, large concept art for the iconic Disney attraction. Sold for $15,332.

Disney Original Concept Painting From 1946 for “Song of the South” by Mary Blair — Measures 13.5″ x 11″
Mary Blair 1946 concept painting for Disney’s “Song of the South”. A “Disney Legend” who designed concept art for several Disney films including “Cinderella”, Mary Blair famously visited the South before creating concept art for “Song of the South”, with her research evident here in the landscape and mood. Gouache painting on board shows Br’er Bear, Br’er Fox and Tar-Baby about to set a trap for Br’er Rabbit. Board measures 13.5″ x 11″. Light edge wear and pinholes at corners, otherwise near fine. Sold for $11,025.

Additionally, here are some Disney cels we sold:
Original animation cel from Disney’s 1937 classic ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” featuring the most famous moment in the film, the Queen in her old hag disguise handing Snow White the famed poisoned apple. Snow White is portrayed in her iconic gown and with a red bow in her hair, innocently looking at the bright red apple. With ”Snow White and the Witch” handwritten in cursive pencil to left side mat below cel, along with, ”Original / WDP (Walt Disney Pictures)” in ink to bottom right. Cel measures 11” x 7.5”, matted in white with a gilt color frame to an overall size of 20” x 16”. Cel is pristine and in fine condition. With a COA from the Ray Bradbury estate. Sold for $15,000.

Walt Disney signed animation cel used in Disney’s 1940 classic “Pinocchio”, the groundbreaking follow-up to the first full length Disney animated film, ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Very large cel, featuring Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket, measures 4.5″ x 5.5″, with original background measuring 7.5″ by 9.5″, and mat measuring 15″ x 16″ upon which Disney signs, “To Gorden Crier / Best Wishes / Walt Disney”. Disney gifted Gordon Crier the cel after Crier produced a BBC program about Disney in the late 1940s, at the conclusion of which Disney asked Crier what his favorite cartoon was, to which Crier replied, “Pinocchio”. With Courvoisier Galleries sticker affixed to backing certifying that both the background and cel were used in the filming of “Pinocchio”. Walt Disney Productions stamp appears on mat, above Disney’s signature, reading “original / WDP”. Uniform toning to mat and small amount of abrasion to edges. Cel itself is near fine. With an LOA from Crier’s daughter and a COA from Phil Sears. A rare, special Disney signed cel from one of the classics in animated film, also unusual for its size. Sold for $12,000.

Ray Bradbury’s personally owned ”Alice in Wonderland” Disney animation cel. Art from the classic 1951 film features a wide-eyed Alice encountering the living pair of eyeglasses. Hand-painted characters are cut out precisely and mounted to an illustrated background. Alice measures 4.5” x 5.25”. Glasses measure 5.5” x 4”. Background measures 13” x 11”, matted to an overall size of 19” x 18”. Toning to mat and a small smudge to Alice’s cheek, else near fine. With Disney COA stamp to right corner and Disney COA sticker to verso. With a COA from the Ray Bradbury estate. Sold for $8,319.

Original & Large Disney Cel From “Sleeping Beauty” — Depicting Prince Philip and Briar Rose in The Famous “Once Upon a Time” Enchanted Sequence
Incredibly rare and large Disney cel from the beloved 1959 film, “Sleeping Beauty”. Cel depicts Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora, aka Briar Rose, as her name was changed to conceal her cursed identity, during the beginning of the film when the star-crossed lovers first meet in the “Once Upon a Dream” musical sequence. Characters are placed over a forest backdrop. Framed to an overall size of 13″ x 10″. With an official Disneyland sticker to verso reading, ”This is an original handpainted celluloid drawing actually used in a Walt Disney production.” Near fine. Sold for $7,464.

Walt Disney Signed “Bambi” Cel — Featuring Bambi and Thumper, Along With Thumper’s Four Bunnies
Walt Disney signed “Bambi” cel, used in the 1942 classic film and with a hand-painted set-up of the forest. In this cel entitled “Bambi and Thumper”, Bambi meets Thumper’s four bunny children. Boldly signed “Walt Disney” in green wax crayon on the mat, matching the color in the set-up. “Original WDP [Walt Disney Productions]” stamp appears above Disney’s signature. Cel measures 10.75″ x 7.75″, in original frame measuring 15.75″ x 12.75″. Some flaking to celluloid and light toning to mat. Overall in very good condition. Paper has been removed from back of frame, so it’s unknown whether this is a Courvoisier piece. From the estate of Chic Young. A very unique “Bambi” cel, as signed by Disney. Sold for $6,250.

Set of Two Original Disney Cels from ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and ”Cinderella”
Set of two original Walt Disney Productions cels from the 1937 film ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and the 1950 film ”Cinderella”. Snow White cel features the Evil Queen, here shown holding the potion that will turn her into the old hag. Cel on textured painted background measures approximately 7” x 9.25”, framed to 12.75” x 16.75”. Some cracking and buckling to cel, not distracting from display, overall in very good condition.
”Cinderella” features five cels framed together, showing Cinderella, Bruno the dog, Major the horse, and the two bluebirds. Entire display on hand-drawn background measures approximately 11.5” x 8.5”, framed to 13.75” x 11.5”. A few minor spots of cracking, overall near fine.
