Sell Your Lookout Mountain Tintype

Tintypes, also known as ferrotypes or melainotypes, were first created in the 1850s and widely used until the 1860s and 1870s. The emergence of wet collodion photography was similar to the previously used daguerreotypes of the 1840s and 1850s, but involved a faster and less expensive process. Since the technology did not involve a negative, each photo has been exposed by the camera and resulted in reversed or mirror-liked images. Tintypes were mostly utilized in portraiture settings in which the photographer would have a booth set up, such as at a carnival or fair. Tintypes are known for capturing much of the American Civil War’s battle grounds and soldier portraits. Some well-known Civil War photographers, such as George S. Cook, used tintypes.
