A silver label printed on the lower right identifies this piece as “Walt Disney / Animation Production Art”. The cel measures approximately 14″ x 10.25″ and is in fine condition. An enchanting piece from a beloved classic and the last in its era of Disney animation. Sold for $1,470.
Hand-Painted Animation Cel From the Production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” — The Last Disney Feature to Use Cels
Animation cel from “The Little Mermaid.” The 1989 film was the last in a wildly successful line of Disney features to use hand-painted cels. It was a first, however, in the so-called Disney Renaissance during which the company drew from well-known classic tales for inspiration. “The Little Mermaid” is based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Here, the wide-eyed mermaid Ariel holds her anxious friend Flouder. Cel is set-up against a green foliage background. Disney seal is affixed to the lower left. Measures 14″ x 11″. Near fine. Sold for $1,468.
