LeRoy Neiman original artwork, oil on board measuring 71.5” x 47.25”. Large artwork features a peacock design in Neiman’s distinct style, with a woman in the background, possibly inspired by Gail Devers from the 1996 Olympics. Artwork was one of several Neiman did for NBC in 1997. Framed with wood backing to a size of 73.75” x 50.25”. Signed and dated by Neiman at lower right. Minute soiling at edges, else near fine. Very Scarce Original Artwork of the Playboy Character “Femlin” — Drawn by Playboy’s Illustrator LeRoy Neiman Who Created Her in 1955
Scarce original artwork of the Playboy character Femlin, a female sprite created by LeRoy Neiman, who has drawn her every month for Playboy’s Party Jokes page since 1955 to this day. Our “Femlin” here simply says “Hi”; she has been drawn by Neiman in black marker who signs at the bottom, “LeRoy Neiman / ’85.” The Femlin is a remarkably scarce drawing, given that Neiman has drawn her for so many years and continues to draw her. Her personality is mischievous and is adorned only in opera gloves, stockings and high heels. She has been so popular that a set of four plaster statuettes advertised for sale in Playboy in 1963 recently sold for nearly $8,000. Drawing is on a 5″ x 7″ card and is accompanied by a handwritten note dated 22 January 1985 which reads, “I created the Femlin 30 years ago. Aug. ’85 is her 30th birthday. / LeRoy Neiman.” Near fine condition. Sold for $3,670.

LeRoy Neiman signed horse sketch within his signed book ”Horses,” published by Henry M. Abrams: New York: 1979. The famed expressionist painter of high-profile sporting events, including the Kentucky Derby, sketches a horse in profile to the title page and signs it ”from LeRoy for Sue”. Upon the fly-leaf he signs his full name ”LeRoy Neiman” in pencil, along with an ink inscription, ”To Sue Rees with love / Dec. VIII nineteen 70 nine”. Inscription seems to have been penned at a different time from signature itself. Neiman’s ability to covey the look and feel of dynamic action in fast-paced athletic competitions resulted in his acclaim as the first sports artist of the world. The Smithsonian, the Whitney Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and many others across the world count his art among their permanent collections. Hardcover volume runs 350pp. Measures 14.5” x 14.25”. With original dustjacket and pictorial endpapers. A blank bookplate is affixed to front free endpaper, along with a newspaper clipping on Neiman, else near fine. Minor creasing and edge wear to dustjacket, else near fine. Sold for $1,220.
