John Wayne Signed Contract For Barbarian & Geisha
Marion Robert Morrison (May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), known professionally as John Wayne and nicknamed Duke, was an American actor and filmmaker who became a popular icon through his starring roles in films made during Hollywood’s Golden Age, especially in Western and war movies. His career flourished from the silent era of the 1920s through the American New Wave, as he appeared in a total of 179 film and television productions. He was among the top box office draws for three decades, and he appeared with many other important Hollywood stars of his era. In 1999, the American Film Institute selected Wayne as one of the greatest male stars of classic American cinema.
John Wayne 20th Century Fox contract signed “John Wayne” in blue ink. Agreement pertains to his lead role in the 1958 film, “The Barbarian and the Geisha”. The Duke played “Townsend Harris” in the film, the first U.S. Consul-General to Japan, where the story takes place. Contract delineates an alteration to Wayne’s commitment to four films for 20th Century Fox: though “The Barbarian and the Geisha” was the first film shot, it is to be counted as the fourth, so long as the remaining three films get made, as this affects payment schedule. Countersigned by 20th Century Fox’s executive manager and rubber stamped by the studio’s legal department. Runs 2pp. on 2 sheets. Toning, filing holes to top edge and pencil notation to upper right of first page. Very good. Sold for $1,177.
