Here is a John Bell Edward Everett doughnut ferrotype we have sold in the past:
John Bell & Edward Everett 1860 Ferrotype Union Party
The Constitutional Union Party was a United States third party active during the 1860 elections. It consisted of conservative former Whigs, largely from the Southern United States, who wanted to avoid secession over the slavery issue and refused to join either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. The Constitutional Union Party campaigned on a simple platform “to recognize no political principle other than the Constitution of the country, the Union of the states, and the Enforcement of the Laws”.
Campaign ferrotype for the 1860 Constitutional Union party, featuring the ticket of John Bell for President and Edward Everett for Vice President. The Constitutional Union party opposed southern secession and, though unsuccessful in the election, were influential in the Wheeling Convention where West Virginia broke from Virginia in 1861 to form its own state, allied with the Union. Circular ferrotypes are mounted in brass, with Bell appearing on one side and Everett appearing on the other. Measures 1.75″ in diameter. Some emulsion loss to Everett image, otherwise near fine. Sold for $810.
