Pierre-Auguste Renoir Drawing — Portrait of a Young Girl ”Fillette”
French Impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir pen and ink drawing with ink wash of a young girl with a hat, entitled ”Fillette”. The drawing, created circa 1882, is signed with the initial, ”R”. Renoir, who had been painting Parisian scenes for many years, saw his fame take off when, along with other Impressionist painters, including Monet, Degas and Cezanne, his work was represented in the first Impressionist Exhibition in 1874. He painted scenes of people at work and play, often painting women and girls. He was known for his free brush strokes and the warm sensuality present in the light and color of his palette. Two of Renoir’s most famous paintings, ”Luncheon of the Boating Party” and ”Girl With a Hoop”, were completed during the early 1880’s when this drawing was made. The drawing, measuring 5.5” x 7.75”, is in fine condition. With provenance from Sotheby’s. Marilyn Monroe personally owned necklace. Brilliant beaded choker features crystal beads in graduated sizes, each with 16 multicolor facets. Choker fastens with a hook clasp. Measures 16” from end to end. Near fine. Originally part of the 28 October 1999 Christie’s auction of Marilyn Monroe’s personal effects, lot 248 of sale 9216. With tag still attached. Sold for $29,136.
Stunning gold and diamond guilloche vanity case by Faberge. Case features a ground engine-turned guilloche exterior, richly covered in candy apple red enamel. An Imperial eagle figure in gold is applied to front of case at the center of a starburst, and highlighted with a single diamond at its center. Case opens with a rose-cut diamond thumbpiece to a mirrored interior and a trio of compartments. Features Faberge and makers’ marks of Henrik Wigstrom and August Hollming of St. Petersburg, circa 1908-1915. Measures 3.5″ across and 2.25 deep. Weighs a substantial 9.25 ounces. Near fine. Sold for $21,013.
