“Screwjack” by Hunter S. Thompson. Santa Barbara: Neville Press: 1991. Copy 167 of 300 in this limited signed first edition. Designed and printed by Patrick Reagh. Includes an introduction by Thompson. Hardcover bound in red cloth with gilt stamped backstrip. Issued without a dustjacket. A collection of three stories: “Screwjack,” “Mescalito” and “Death of a Poet” which includes the author’s first account of his experiments with mescaline. Overall, near fine. Sold for $735.

Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter signed ”The Jew”, sent to his friend Paul Semonin in early June 1961. From Big Sur, Thompson writes in part, ”…now midnight – up at 6:30 tomorrow for hard shot at $3.22 per hr. highway const. Job…am working fitfully on Great PR novel – The Rum Diary. Also building windows, skinning deer, scaling fish, raising one motherless fawn, building swimming pool, stalking boar & generally raising hell. Playboy bounced B.S. & it is now circulating for the booby prize…Anyway, pay your debts & come by for a visit. The Jew”. Two page letter on single lined sheet measures 8.5” x 11”. Folds and light toning, overall very good condition. Sold for $1,800.
Hunter Thompson Postcard From 1966
Hunter S. Thompson postcard from 1966, addressed to his friend Paul Semonin in New York City, with postmark of 22 February 1966. A clever, cryptic typed line on front of card reads ”’Underass Wizard Mojo Indian Fighter”’. At this time, Thompson was riding with the Hell’s Angels in preparation for his book ”Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs”. Postcard measures 5.5” x 3.25”. Light wear, in very good condition. Sold for $500.
