The 1844 United States presidential election was the 15th quadrennial presidential election, held from Friday, November 1 to Wednesday, December 4, 1844. Democrat James K. Polk defeated Whig Henry Clay in a close contest turning on the controversial issues of slavery and the annexation of the Republic of Texas.

Whig Henry Clay 1844 Presidential Campaign Metal
Rare Presidential campaign medal from the 1844 contest pitting Whig candidate Henry Clay against Democrat James Polk. Clay is featured on one side of this medal, with President George Washington on the reverse; Washington was venerated by several groups who also supported Clay during the election, including the Native American community. Metal with desired “pewter rim” measures 2.5″ in diameter. Loop at top of medal has been replaced. Some spotting to metal and foxing to paper images, overall very good plus condition. Sold for $1,763.
