Sell Your George Gardner Symons Art

Here is a George Gardner Symons painting we have sold:

Impressionist Winter Landscape by George Gardner Symons

Landscape painting by George Gardner Symons. Oil on canvas, signed to lower left, “G.S.” A superb example of the impressionist snowscapes for which the artist is best known. The painting shows a quiet path winding through a snow-covered wood toward a large, distant lake. Symons’ dramatic use of color complements and balances the brilliant white of the snow banks, and the realistic play of light accentuates his otherwise firmly impressionist technique with a touch of realism. Symons studied painting all over the world, first as a student of the Chicago Art Institute, and later in Paris, Munich and London. Joining a colony of artists at St. Ives, he adopted the plein-air techniques of Julius Olsson, Adrian Stokes and Rudolph Hellwag. Though he also painted desert landscapes and maritime paintings, Symons was best known for his New England snow scenes, especially those set in the Berkshire Mountains. This piece is in pristine condition, with no in-painting or repairs. Image measures 23.5″ x 18″; framed, 30.5″ x 25″. Frame shows mild wear and cracking, otherwise excellent condition. Sold for $1,057.

The following are some additional landscape paintings we sold:

Oscar E. Berninghaus Oil on Board Landscape

Framed Oscar Berninghaus oil on board landscape, circa late 1800’s. Painted by the Taos Society of Artists founder, Berninghaus captures a lush morning landscape of Western Rocky Mountains and towering birch trees in his semi-Impressionistic style. The St. Louis, MO native excelled at drawing animals and figures in Southwestern landscapes. Painting, measuring 9″ x 12″, in excellent condition.  Sold for $9,350.

Marjorie Reed Western Landscape

Marjorie Reed original landscape painting. Oil on canvas, signed to lower right. Measures 24″ x 20″; 29″ x 25″ framed. Marjorie Reed was born in 1915, the daughter of artist Walter Reed, an illustrator for Walt Disney. She was raised in Los Angeles, but from a young age yearned for the life of the country. After attending the Chouinart Art School and the Art Center school in Los Angeles, she found her most significant tutelage with renowned California landscape artist Jack Wilkinson Smith. She moved dozens of times throughout her adult life, living primarily in Arizona and Southern California. Her paintings often feature stagecoaches, cowboys, horses and other iconography of the west. Horses were a particular passion of Reed’s, an interest she traced to her girlhood dream of living on a ranch. In this painting, she depicts a placid scene of a Native American couple on a pack mule in the midst of a sprawling desert. Light general soiling to canvas. Excellent condition. Sold for $3,267.
