Gary Cooper Grave Marker
Gary Cooper (born Frank James Cooper; May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961) was an American actor known for his natural, authentic, strong, silent and understated acting style. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor twice and had a further three nominations, as well as receiving an Academy Honorary Award for his career achievements in 1961. He was one of the top 10 film personalities for 23 consecutive years, and one of the top money-making stars for 18 years. The American Film Institute (AFI) ranked Cooper at No. 11 on its list of the 25 greatest male stars of classic Hollywood cinema.
Original gravestone from the first burial site of screen legend Gary Cooper. Cooper passed away on 13 May 1961 and was buried at the Holy Cross cemetery in Culver City, California where his grave remained for 13 years. In May of 1974, Cooper’s remains were exhumed and transferred to the Sacred Heart cemetery in Southhampton, New York where a new grave stone was made, at the request of his widow Veronica. This is the headstone from the original burial site. Bronze gravestone reads “Gary Cooper / 1901-1961″ with a small cross above Cooper’s name. Measures 24.5″ x 12.5” and weighs 17.2 lbs. Very good. Sold for $3,000.
