How to Sell Your Faberge Items

What Was The House of Faberge?

The House of Faberge (or Fabergé) became the iconic name of the famous jewelry company that took Russia and Europe by storm at the turn of the 20th Century. Founded by Gustav Faberge in St. Petersburg in 1842, the company began to earn esteem, particularly from the royalty of the country, before being nationalized by the Bolsheviks in 1918 amidst the backdrop of WWI.

Here Are Some Faberge Items We’ve Sold:

A Parcel-Gilt Silver Kovsh Marked K. Faberge With The Imperial Warrant — Sold for $23,116

Of traditional form with flat oval base, with raised prow, the front engraved with monogram ‘AE,’ the reverse engraved ‘1876 – 1. Dec. – 1901’, the flat stylized handle cast and chased with a Sirin amidst scrolling foliage, marked under base. 12 1/8″ x 24.6″. Provenance from Christie’s. Sold for $23,116.

Faberge Vase From The Last Days of the Company’s Pre-Bolshevik Era — Sold for $21,013

Perfect silver Faberge vase crafted circa 1908-1917, just before the Bolshevik take-over of the company and when Faberge produced its most exquisite objects. Ribbed bombe vase on a circular foot features applied filigree and cloisonne in white, blue, sea green and purple enamels. Stamped in Russian, ”K. Faberge” with the imperial warrant, Moscow and also ”91”. The inventory number is engraved clearly: ”35280”. A stylized V-shaped stamped character is likely a Faberge workmaster’s mark. Measures 4.25” in height and 5.5” deep at its widest. The diameter of the mouth measures 4.75” and the base, 3.75”. Light tarnishing with occasional scratching and loss of colored enamel, else near fine. A beautiful representation of the Faberge company during Imperial Russia. Sold for $21,013.

Vintage Faberge Red Enameled Guilloche Mirrored Vanity Case — Sold for $21,013

Stunning gold and diamond guilloche vanity case by Faberge. Case features a ground engine-turned guilloche exterior, richly covered in candy apple red enamel. An Imperial eagle figure in gold is applied to front of case at the center of a starburst, and highlighted with a single diamond at its center. Case opens with a rose-cut diamond thumbpiece to a mirrored interior and a trio of compartments. Features Faberge and makers’ marks of Henrik Wigstrom and August Hollming of St. Petersburg, circa 1908-1915. Measures 3.5″ across and 2.25 deep. Weighs a substantial 9.25 ounces. Near fine.

A Silver Bowl Marked Faberge With The Imperial Warrant, With The Workmaster’s Mark of Julius Rappoport — Sold for $14,351

The conical bowl on a circular foot with beaded rim, the sides inset with four silver ruble coins depicting the emperors Nicholas I, Alexander I, Alexander II and Alexander III within beaded roundels, the interior of the rim with chased stiff-leaf motif, marked under base. 7.75” wide. Near fine. Provenance from Christie’s. Sold for $14,351.

Vintage Faberge Crystal & Silver Box — Sold for $11,858

Faberge cut crystal box from the early part of the 20th century. Box features an all-crystal body with a star and diamond design motif, topped with a silver lid. Maker’s mark reads “K. Faberge” with imperial warrant. Made in Moscow, circa 1908-1915. Measures 5.5″ across, 3.75″ deep and 2.25″ in height. Weighs 1 pound, 8 ounces. Near fine with a beautiful and intricate cut design.

Silver And Guilloche Enamel Brush Marked Faberge 1908 — Sold for $5,205

Silver and guilloche man’s brush marked Faberge, with the original workmaster’s mark of Feodor Afanassiev circa 1908-1917. Inventory number is intact, though scratched, reading “19913”. Brush is shaped oblong with rounded corners and has a beautiful handle enameled in translucent white over a wavy guilloche ground, within a ribbon-tied laurel-chased border, marked on edge. Brush is housed in the original fitted case with stamp in Russian, “Faberge St. Petersburg Moscow London” beneath the Imperial warrant. Measures 2.5″. Some discoloration to bristles, else near fine. With provenance from Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

Faberge Silver Blue Guilloche Dressing Set — Sold for $4,634

Faberge dressing set from the first decade of the twentieth century. Matching six-piece set features workmaster’s mark of Hjalmar Armfelt, St. Petersburg, dating the set 1904-1908. Each piece features a wavy guilloché ground coated in pale blue enamel, with a vacant oval cartouche at center, all within a reeded ribbon-tied silver border. Comprises: (1) elliptical hand brush measuring 5″ x 1.5″ with 1″ bristles; (2) hairbrush measuring 5.5″ x 2.5″ (3) smaller hand mirror measuring 8.75″ x 3.75″. (4) larger hand mirror measuring 10.25″ x 4.5″ (5) smaller glass box with guilloché lid and glass body cut with scrolling foliate pattern, measuring 6″ x 2″ x 2″ (6) larger matching cut glass box measuring 9.5″ x 3.25″ x 3″. Faberge set shows minor scattered chipping to enamel overall, detachment of bristle bed from hairbrush, some absence of bristles from hand brush and a section of chipped enamel to the neck of the smaller mirror, else very good. Provenance from Christie’s where it sold for $32,500. Sold for $4,634.
