Elton John Costume Auction
In our first Elton John costume auction, we at NateDSanders.com Auction House, sold three key pieces of Elton John autographs and memorabilia. First, we sold an Elton John outfit originally from his famous Sotheby’s Elton John Costume Auction from 1988. Later, we sold an Elton John autograph letter signed for over $1000 and an Elton John autograph inside the Grammy Award ceremonies official autograph book with all the other musician autographs for almost $10,000. Elton John custom-made costume designed by Kansai Yamamoto, who became an iconic designer for rock & roll legends like Elton John in the 1970s. Outfit was made during the 1980s and features an ornate and industrial-style coat made of black wool and flannel, with straps and wet-look cotton panels dispersed. Also includes a jerkin, blouson and trousers. With original ”Kansai International” tags intact. Provenance: Lot 1429, Elton John Costume Auction Vol. IV Diverse Collections, Sotheby’s, London, 8-9 September 1988. Sold for $8,567.

Incredible 55th Grammy Awards collection of signatures from 70+ leading musicians who have shaped the contemporary music scene. Each musician signed his or her name while backstage, either during rehearsals or the show itself, which was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 13 February 2013. Most signatures are quite large, some measuring 9” in diameter. Performers’ signatures in black marker include: Adele, Beyonce, Elton John, Jack White, Sting, Jay-Z, Bonnie Raitt, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, John Mayer, Tim McGraw, Nas, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Timbaland, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Kelly Rowland, Quincy Jones, Wiz Khalifa, Ziggy Marley, Damian Marley, Carly Rae Jepsen, Travis Barker, Ne-Yo, Kat Dennings, Solange Knowles, Miranda Lambert, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Pitbull, Amber Rose, David Guetta, Skrillex and more. Also signed by bands The Lumineers, Fun and Mumford & Sons, as well as by host and producer Ryan Seacrest, comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, actors Vin Diesel and Neil Patrick Harris, actress Jessica Biel, and actress/director Lena Dunham. Impresario Mark Cuban signs as well, with further signatures totaling more than 70 in all. ”Epica” brand handmade Italian book is bound in marbled brown leather and measures a grand 13” x 12”. Album includes 51 sheets with signatures on front and verso of each. Measures 11.75” x 11.75” on thick cream-colored cardstock. Front board has one minor indentation. Near fine overall. Elton John Autograph Letter Signed — Regarding “Song For Guy” — “…He was a smashing little bloke and I’m glad the song turned out so well…”
Elton John autograph letter signed, dated 21 November 1978 on “Watford Football Club” stationery. Letter discusses his new song, “Song for Guy” and reads in part: “Dear Paul, Thanks for the letter about ‘Song for Guy.’ He [Guy Burchett] was a smashing little bloke and I’m glad the song turned out so well. It’s being issued as a single in 10 days time – by public demand!…If it’s a hit it’ll be great to see Guy take his place in a little bit of chart history…All the best Elton”.
