Jim Carrey screen-worn cloak and Grinch head from the classic Christmas story, ”Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas”. As the despicable Grinch who tries to ruin Christmas for the townspeople in Whoville, Carrey dons the costume upon sneaking into the town. Lot comprises a two-piece cloak and Grinch head mask, with label inside the cloak inscribed, ”John David Ridge / Mr. Jim Carrey”. Floor-length ulsterette cloak with angel sleeves in milk chocolate-color fabric features allover tufts of coarse thread, lending a shaggy appearance. Topped with a cropped cape in matching fabric with drawstring hood, fastening up the front with hook-and-eye closures. Accompanied by a green rubber Grinch mask that fits over the head. Cloak comes with a COA from Universal. Small bits of white prop snow from set are embedded in the fabric. Near fine. Sold for $7,563.

Dr. Seuss first edition, first printing of his beloved classic, ”How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, published in New York: Random House, 1957. All first printing points are present, including the 250/250 price on the bottom of the dust jacket front flap, and the 14 titles on the rear flap. Unpaginated volume features red pictorial endpapers and comes bound in glossy paper boards. Measures 8.25” x 11.5”. Prior owner’s name inscribed to front free endpaper and private bookplate affixed to half title page. Light foxing, toning, and soiling to leaves. Wear and bumping to board corners and edges. Very good condition overall. Toning to dust jacket and chipping to edges, with creasing to spine; very good condition. Sold for $938.

Seuss’ tale of the curmudgeonly Grinch character who robs a town on Christmas Eve but fails to break the villagers’ spirit has become a staple of the holiday season.
