James Doolittle & His Doolittle Raiders Signed Document — Signed in an 1986 Air Force Association “Gathering of Eagles” Commemorative Booklet
Nice collection of 44 signatures of various Doolittle Raiders and other WWII pilots in an 1986 AFA “Gathering of Eagles” commemorative booklet. Here, 44 AFA members who attended the memorial event sign their name in pen on the front pastedown, with signatures of various Raiders and other WWII pilots including: Gen J.H. Doolittle, Col. Henry A. Potter, Lt. Col. Richard E. Cole and many more. Booklet measures 8.25″ x 10.25″, with minor smudge marks on the front cover and page three. Near fine condition. Sold for $2,561.
General James Doolittle signed limited edition artwork of the historic WWII mission, also signed by 27 of his Doolittle’s Raiders, many of whom have added their crew number. In addition to Doolittle, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for the raid, print is signed by his co-pilot Richard E. Cole, as well as by Chase Nielsen and Jake DeShazer, both of whom were captured and interned by the Japanese. Artwork is a limited edition print, #572 of 2,000, of a painting by Robert Moak (who also signs) entitled ”0820 18 April 1942”. The print was commissioned by the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Association for charity, initially signed by Doolittle and then by the Raiders at their 1992 reunion. Print measures 27.5” x 20”, in near fine condition. Accompanied by two LOAs regarding the signings. Sold for $1,210.

“Doolittle’s Tokyo Raiders” Signed by General James Doolittle & 28 of His Raiders
General James Doolittle signed copy of “Doolittle’s Tokyo Raiders”, also signed by 28 of his Raiders. In addition to Doolittle, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for the raid, book is signed by his co-pilot Richard E. Cole, as well as by Chase Nielsen and Jake DeShazer (who signs twice), both of whom were captured and interned by the Japanese. Authored by Lt. Col. Carroll Glines, who signs the title page. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Co., 1964. All men sign the front free endpaper, with Travis Hoover additionally inscribing the flyleaf, and signing above his photo on page 141. Book with dust jacket measures 6.25″ x 9.25″. Light shelf wear and a few dog-eared pages, overall very good plus condition. Accompanied by ticket to the Doolittle’s Tokyo Raider Reunion held on 22 April 1989. Sold for $1,169.

WWII General Jimmy Doolittle 1943 Autograph Letter Signed & APO Signed Cover — “…Have had quite a bit of fun here…won’t be contented until I make a premeditated landing in Berlin…”
General Jimmy Doolittle WWII-dated autograph letter signed “Jim” and dated 21 July 1943, one year after the Doolittle Raid over Japan. With a cover signed “J.H. Doolittle” and postmarked at APO 773 in North Africa. Addressed to a Mr. Wheeler at Shell Oil Co., where Doolittle worked prior, letter reads in part: “…won’t be contented until I make a premeditated landing in Berlin. A rather ambitious project but would nicely round out a combat flying career…” Letter measures 8″ x 10.5″ on 2pp. with folds and toning throughout. Near fine. Sold for $754.

Cover dated 4 July 1986 is signed by 26 others including pilots David Jones, Harold Watson and Bill Bower.
