David Ben-Gurion Historic ALS 1953

David Ben-Gurion autograph letter signed. Composed in Hebrew and signed, “D. Ben-Gurion,” as Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Single page octavo, The Kiryah, 1 Tevet 5714 / 7 December 1953. Written to Moshe Sharett letter reads: “When you attain the Prime Ministership things will look different than they appear even to the Foreign Minister. Not everything that must be done can be done immediately – in the final analysis you are more constrained in finances and in competent human resources. Therefore it is important that there be a set of priorities. In order to do this intelligently you must receive what is referred to in the armed forces as a ‘situation evaluation’ both in terms of the national and international interests and to judge the positions and the capabilities of the military and political experts. / With Blessings, D. Ben-Gurion” On 2 November 1953, Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, announced his intention of resigning the premiership and his post as Defense Minister at a meeting of the political committee of his Mapai party. On November 25th, the party’s 130-member central committee nominated Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett as his successor. On 7 December 1953, the day he wrote this letter, Ben-Gurion wrote his letter of resignation to President Ben-Zvi. After new elections on 26 July 1955, Ben-Gurion made it known that he desired to return as Prime Minister. On 14 August 1955 Prime Minister Sharett resigned and Ben-Gurion formed a new coalition government and returned as Prime Minister in November. Sharett continued as Foreign Minister until June 1956. Two binder holes at right margin, small hole at “3” in “1953”; otherwise, fine condition. Sold for $2,507.

David Ben-Gurion Signed Limited Edition of ”Israel: A Personal History”

David Ben-Gurion signed limited edition of ”Israel: A Personal History”, his 862pp. tribute to the country he founded and led as its first Prime Minister. New York: Funk and Wagnalls Inc., 1971. Ben-Gurion signs ”D. Ben-Gurion” below his frontispiece portrait. Volume is #1,343 of 2,000 in the limited edition, beautifully bound in navy leather boards with top edge gilt and silk moire endpapers. Measures 7” x 10.25” in its original slipcase, which is slightly bowed, otherwise near fine. Dent to front board, minute foxing to endpapers and certificate from the Israel Institute of Technology mounted to verso of signature page. Overall very good condition. Sold for $2,218.

David Ben-Gurion & Paula Ben-Gurion Signatures — Signed in Jerusalem

David and Paula Ben-Gurion signatures. The first prime minister of Israel and his wife sign ”D. Ben-Gurion” and ”Paula Ben Gurion / Jerusalem” on Holyland Hotel stationary. David Ben-Gurion also writes something above his name, possibly the date. Single page measures 8.5” x 10.5”. Smoothed folds, else near fine.  Sold for $401.

Israel’s First Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion Signed Photo From 1971

David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel signed photograph. On the border, his autograph inscription reads in full: ”To J. Lowell Eddleman / with best wishes / D. Ben Gurion 7.2.71”. By 1971 the Zionist leader had retired to the Negev desert, residing at the kibbutz Sde Boker. He died two years after signing this photo. Original envelope is included. Glossy photo measures 3.5” x 5.25”. A printed card that reads: ”With Compliments from D. Ben Gurion” is partially affixed to verso, else near fine. Sold for $238.
