Christa McAuliffe Autograph Sold

The main goals of the 1986 Challenger flight were to launch a tracking and data relay satellite as well as to release the Spartan Halley spacecraft to monitor Halley’s Comet. There were seven crew members on the Challenger that tragically perished shortly after the shuttle launched, including social studies teacher Christa McAuliffe.

Christa McAuliffe was the first American civilian chosen to partake in a space mission through NASA’s the Teacher in Space Project, which captivated the country during the months preceding the mission. The Teacher in Space Project was created to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM and McAuliffe had planned to film science lessons from the Challenger to share with students across the country. Scholarships were been created McAuliffe’s name following the tragedy of the Challenger and she was also awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 2004. In 2018 NASA shared some of McAuliffe’s lessons demonstrated by Astronauts Joe Acaba and Ricky Arnold to honor her and others that were aboard the Challenger.

We sold the following autograph items of Christa McAuliffe and other Challenger astronauts:
