Sell Your Chinese Qing Dynasty Photos

We at Nate D. Sanders Auctions sold a photo album of the final years of the Qing dynasty, China’s last imperial dynasty, for $2,960. Please see details below:

Extraordinary 32-Page 1900’s Chinese Photo Album Documenting the Final Years of the Qing Dynasty — Contains Excellent Content of Soldiers and Chinese Life

A 32-page photo album of China with English captions containing more than 100 photographs taken by an English officer stationed in China from 1906-1910. The officer documented the final years of the Qing dynasty, capturing military and civilian life throughout the country and focusing in the cities of Tientsin, Kirken, Pei Ho, Peking, Tonkin and Han Kwan. The album begins in December 1906 with an 8.5″ x 11″ photo of four Chinese men in double-breasted suits and hats. The following page has photos of Chinese soldiers marching on the Tientsin Settlement, Italian soldiers and two pictures of Ukrainian Cossacks. The following page entitled “The Tired Four” features five photos of a quartet band playing the banjo. The ensuing pages have photos of a gunpowder factory, including one with an explosion in front of the factory. An interesting photo is the dragon festival with boats on the Pei Ho River. There are photos of Chinese men standing on a dragon statue pedestal in Peking, members of the Cricket Club and a 12-mile walking race. Many of the subsequent photos in the album are photos of ordinary Chinese people in society: people with their dogs and at social gatherings such as the photo of a picnic party on solid ice and people bundled in fur coats and a general garden rally in Tientsin. Some of the most gorgeous photos in the album are the 10″ x 8″ prints of the skies and mountains in Han Kwan and a temple in the hills near Han Kwan. The album continues with 10″ x 8″ glossy photos of the interior of a Chinese temple, a Russian funeral, Victoria Road street, Chinese women converted by missionaries, sailboats on the frozen Pai Ho River, a fiery-looking Chinese God, a Railway Staff Officer sign and a picture of a train engine. One of the more intriguing photos in the album is a 10″ x 8″ print of Chinese soldiers loading ammunition. There are small pictures of German, Russian, French and Belgium soldiers proceeding. The next page has an impressive photo of a German gunboat on the Pai Ho River and a marble reproduction of a Chinese temple on a port in Peking. The last pages have a picture of the Great Wall of China and a Chinese camel along with tinted photos of Nagasaki and Yokohama, Japan. Overall, the photo album measures approximately 10″ x 13″ and contains over 100 photos mounted on the album’s pages. The photos are all in excellent condition for viewing, although a few have light staining and discoloration. In very good condition and a rare opportunity to own a historical pictorial perspective of imperialistic China. Sold for $2,960.
