Signed photograph of Australia’s most well-known early aviator, Charles Kingsford-Smith, who made the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia in 1928. 7.75″ x 10″ photo is inscribed in the upper right by Smith, “To the best child / Standard S. College V. School” and signed to the lower right, “C Kingsford Smith / Southern Cross / Palmerston North”, referencing his famous trans-Pacific plane. Signed circa 1933. Some spotting, wear and silvering to photo. Writing remains vivid. Overall in good plus condition.

Charles Kingsford-Smith signed photo pictured in front of his plane, Southern Cross, that he flew to complete the first trans-Pacific flight from Australia to the United States. He inscribes the photo, ”Cheerio to Dick Barnitz / from / CKingsford-Smith”. Barnitz was the airport manager of the Los Angeles Municipal Airport, which would become LAX. Glossy photo measures 6.75” x 9”. Light creasing, otherwise near fine. Accompanied by an additional 9” x 7” press photo from 1934 of Kingsford-Smith landing the Southern Cross in Hawaii.
Charles Kingsford Smith Signed Print Commemorating His Pioneering Flight From United States to Australia. Sold for $625.
Aviator Charles Kingsford Smith signed print, commemorating his 1928 flight in which he became the first pilot to fly from the United States to Australia. Color print features an illustrated scene of Kingsford Smith’s plane “Southern Cross” as it flies over the city of Suva, Fiji on its way to Australia. Kingsford Smith signs to lower right, “C Kingsford Smith”. Print is copyrighted by the Wright Aeronautical Corporation in 1928. Measures 17″ x 21″. Slight dampstaining and tearing to top edges, with paper removal to all corners save for lower right, not visible if framed. Very good condition overall.
