Singing bird boxes originated in Geneva around the mid-1780s and were typically rectangular boxes containing a self-operating singing bird. Charles Bruguier was known for his exquisite mechanical items, including bird boxes which he crafted for nearly four decades beginning in 1823.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir Drawing — Portrait of a Young Girl ”Fillette”

French Impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir pen and ink drawing with ink wash of a young girl with a hat, entitled ”Fillette”. The drawing, created circa 1882, is signed with the initial, ”R”. Renoir, who had been painting Parisian scenes for many years, saw his fame take off when, along with other Impressionist painters, including Monet, Degas and Cezanne, his work was represented in the first Impressionist Exhibition in 1874. He painted scenes of people at work and play, often painting women and girls. He was known for his free brush strokes and the warm sensuality present in the light and color of his palette. Two of Renoir’s most famous paintings, ”Luncheon of the Boating Party” and ”Girl With a Hoop”, were completed during the early 1880’s when this drawing was made. The drawing, measuring 5.5” x 7.75”, is in fine condition. With provenance from Sotheby’s. Also featured in: (1) page 171, Vol. II of ”Pastels & Drawings of Pierre-Auguste Renoir” by Ambroise Vollard. Paris: 1918; (2) page 568, Vol. II of ”Renoir. Catalogue Raisonne of the Paintings, Pastels, Drawings and Watercolours 1882-1894” by Guy-Patrice & Michel Dauberville. Paris: 2009. Described here as watercolour and without mention of signature. Sold for $65,959.

Marilyn Monroe Personally Owned Crystal Necklace

Marilyn Monroe personally owned necklace. Brilliant beaded choker features crystal beads in graduated sizes, each with 16 multicolor facets. Choker fastens with a hook clasp. Measures 16” from end to end. Near fine. Originally part of the 28 October 1999 Christie’s auction of Marilyn Monroe’s personal effects, lot 248 of sale 9216. With tag still attached. Sold for $29,136.

A Parcel-Gilt Silver Kovsh Marked K. Faberge With The Imperial Warrant, Moscow, 1899-1908

Of traditional form with flat oval base, with raised prow, the front engraved with monogram ‘AE,’ the reverse engraved ‘1876 – 1. Dec. – 1901’, the flat stylized handle cast and chased with a Sirin amidst scrolling foliage, marked under base. 12 1/8″ x 24.6″. Provenance from Christie’s. Sold for $23,116.

Captivating Vintage Faberge Red Enameled Guilloche Mirrored Vanity Case — Accented With Diamonds & Gold Imperial Eagle — Circa 1908-1915

Stunning gold and diamond guilloche vanity case by Faberge. Case features a ground engine-turned guilloche exterior, richly covered in candy apple red enamel. An Imperial eagle figure in gold is applied to front of case at the center of a starburst, and highlighted with a single diamond at its center. Case opens with a rose-cut diamond thumbpiece to a mirrored interior and a trio of compartments. Features Faberge and makers’ marks of Henrik Wigstrom and August Hollming of St. Petersburg, circa 1908-1915. Measures 3.5″ across and 2.25 deep. Weighs a substantial 9.25 ounces. Near fine. Sold for $21,013.

Guy Carleton Wiggins Painting of New York City in Winter

Guy Carleton Wiggins painting in his quintessential style of New York City in winter. Entitled ”Snow Storm at The Plaza”, oil on canvas board is signed ”Guy Wiggins NA” at lower right. Also signed and titled on the reverse. Measures 16” x 11.75”, in an early frame measuring 16” x 20”. No restoration. An excellent example of Wiggins’ impressionistic work, in very good condition. Sold for $20,000.
